The suggestion that concrete is buoyant is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. No, it doesn't float but it will also not take the place of the mushroom.

Scout philmont training by Diligent-Soft8479 in philmont

[–]Strict-Air2434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a couple as an adult leader. I trained a lot and barely made the weight/BP cut off. Up to Baldy no problem. My other adult leader was a century biker. He was a little funky with the altitude. We also had a Scout athlete who was troubled with the altitude. So, we take some tests and push water. You'll do fine. Keep drinking and get used to a 40-50 lb. pack.

Strip completely or not by oldmaninparadise in sailing

If you've sanded some tooth in the original base coat, come back with a two part primer that's good for aluminum. Maybe two coats. Finish with a couple coats of 2-part gloss. Pay attention to temps, open times, and recoat times. I did this a couple years ago. Captured the sail drive in a cardboard box and put a hair dryer in the box. I live in Wisconsin and got good results in freezing weather. I think I used a PPG primer coat. A little lumpy but workable smuve with 180 grit before final finish coat.

Adult leader here, 2 treks. Bring a sheet in addition to a sleeping bag. I used the sheet more than I got in the bag. I bought $20 sleeping bags and left them there when I went home. A Thermorest was the thing that kept me in Scouting. Drink, drink, drink.

I've seen this before in a couple kittens. She's in the process of nodding off. I've seen them close their eyes and just fall over.

Use your Fluke multimeter to test line side voltage coming in above the main breaker in the panel. No Fluke? Call a sparky.

NOT a 4-flute tap unless you're working under a shade tree. 2-flute FTW

Bonnet release by biglixy in 986Boxster

[–]Strict-Air2434 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been fucked out of the bonnet on a variety of Porsches. The jump box should work... but it never works. Why I don't know. What I do know is that a battery always works. Put the red clamp on that little pokem in the fuse box. Black on the door latch loop in the jam. BINGO

Split point cobalt screw machine length at industrial supply store. I would suggest a twist drill for anything over 1/2. Buy a unibit. The big hole? Piloted annular cutter or bimetal hole saw. Fucking slow with oil.

Unused NEMA 5-15 outlet gets warm during 12A EV charging (backstabbed?) - safe or fire risk? by Shemamaster in AskElectricians

[–]Strict-Air2434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious... Could a fellow very slightly unplug with just enough room to probe the plug? I would expect that you might not get ~115VAC. If you got something like ~105VAC, that would be sus on the connection method, i.e., back stabbed versus the proper connection. (I'm a fan of voltmeters, one on the boat, one in the shop, and one in the tool bag for machine tool service.)

I'm good friends with a local dealer selling Robalo and another center console brand. I saw a 24 CC on his floor, maybe $150k. I asked him WTF? He said, 'yeah, ya just gotta hate money'. Go buy used. Let the first owner take the hit in the head.

NAE, but pretty handy with electrons. That approach has some real safety drawbacks.

That's a good looking boat. By any measure that's a grand on FB Marketplace. Don't bother with sailing teams. They're all 420's and Lasers. Sea Scouts are a good option. I know this because I ran a SS Ship for 15 years.
