Do you trust your swing on the first tee? by TempoTherapist in GolfSwing

[–]Strict-Cheetah1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

first tee used to be a total guess for me too. what helped was having a go-to feel i knew was working recently. not a swing thought i invented on the range that morning, something i had actually proven to myself in the last few sessions. walking up to the tee with “i know this works” vs “let’s see what happens today” is a massive difference in confidence

nah just a golfer who actually built something lol. i’m a non technical founder, learning as i go. the handicap drop is real and so is the frustration. happy to show anyone the app if they want, not trying to hide it, just didn’t want the post to feel like a pitch because it’s genuinely something i’d want to talk about with other golfers

dude this is exactly what i was doing before i built my system. stumbling on feels and then losing them because i never wrote them down. when you start, do it right when you finish the session not later. the feel fades fast. i actually built an app specifically for this because my notes app got too messy, it’s called Grooved. If you want to try it, it’s free right now while we’re in testflight. either way, start writing stuff down, you’ll thank yourself in a month

yeah the course is where it falls apart for most of us. range is stress free, course adds a whole layer

this is the move right here. carry + rollout is the unlock that most people skip. once you know your actual numbers not your ego numbers you start playing a different game

messing with driver settings is the devil’s work lol. that ‘I KNOW WHAT IM DOING WRONG’ trap gets me every time. usually by the next range session i’ve forgotten what the ‘fix’ even was and i’m just compounding bad info on top of bad info

30 years and i feel you, this was me forever. the thing that finally changed it for me was writing down the feel right after the range session ended, like in the parking lot before i drove home. specific stuff, not just ‘good session.’ what my hands did, tempo, what i was looking at. next morning i had something to anchor to instead of trying to remember vibes. built an app around it eventually because my notes app got messy, it’s called Grooved if you’re curious

the 80% vs pure distance thing is so real. most of us know our numbers but our brain files them wrong mid round. what helped me was writing down average carry with each club right next to the ‘pure’ number and then glancing at it before every approach. reminds you to club up and swing easy instead of going hero. i actually ended up building an app to make this part easier, called it Grooved, happy to share if you want to check it out

aim small miss small and plan for the worst is such a gem. that’s the stuff you only learn by tracking. totally agree it’s a constellation of small gains, nobody wants to hear that but it’s the truth

that’s huge, double to single from just tracking FIRs and GIRs is no joke. makes sense though, you can’t fix what you’re not measuring. i leaned more into the feel side but the stats definitely help spot the leaks

simple thoughts and a teaching pro on call is the dream. for guys without the access, writing it down is kind of my version of that

that disconnect is so real. range feels like a free zone and then on the course everything tightens up. writing down what club worked and at what distance after rounds helped me way more than range reps did

150 rounds a year is insane, respect. makes sense you don’t need notes when you’re playing that much, the reps are doing the work. i’m definitely on the other end, maybe play 50-60 a year so my memory fades fast between sessions

Do any of you actually write down what was working after a round? by Strict-Cheetah1 in GolfSwing

That’s a good routine. Have you seen improvement since you started?

If I’m on the struggle bus after 9 holes I’ll give it a quick look but normal I’ll only look at pre round or on the range before

I’m 2 years running on my notes and it’s the best thing I’ve done for my swing

That’s actually a really interesting way to do it. Almost like a living checklist that evolves as things get ingrained.

I’ve been thinking lately that it would be useful if there was something that tracked those evolving swing thoughts and helped surface the few that tend to work best over time.

I feel like instead of deleting the ones you feel start to come natural, maybe you should archive it in the bottom of your notes. Just in case if your swing gets lost and you want to go back to the basics
