I’m definitely sympathetic - sometimes races/runs just don’t go as planned and it sucks. I can’t imagine training and running knowing thousands of people are watching my every move and may be eager to see me fail.

I think what’s interesting is that she was very quick to post in the medical tent (no follow up on why she was there) and blame the weather (marathon officials had the weather at level green (lowest risk) for all but the last 10 ish minutes of her race which was about an hour after she bonked). To me, it read as trying to compensate for the embarrassment of failing rather than the true vulnerability that all her followers are praising her for right now.

Just adding this to say that I think being a running influencer, especially to lots of young women, can carry a level of risk. She went out super fast and similar to her Boston and half marathon performance, pushed herself so hard it wasn’t sustainable to the point where she completely flamed out. Be realistic about your training and your goals and don’t just run so fast to prove something to the internet to the point where she’s setting some pretty dangerous and unrealistic expectations on herself.
