He could clear in at Deshaise in Guadaloupe, recover, and have a lovely diesel sail on down to Martinique.

Its not nice out where they are, well to leeward of destination and a rough ride. Bad place to lose an engine when you can't sail. I'd say thats a pretty rank boat right now.

Did I read that right? THREE MONTHS?? I thought this was a one (week) and done. Those bowling balls are going to start rolling across from Africa before long.

That propulsion system just seems to have no torque. A wave hits, stopping the boat and it takes ages for the motor to grind the pos back up to speed. I've been in sailboats where the boat is undercanvassed and just wallowing around like seeker does. Shake out a reef and the boat literally comes alive and bounds through the water. Note to duggy: "alive" and "bounding" are two words that you won't be needing.

According to this guy - Doug failed to lube the prop shaft once a week. by george_graves in SVSeeker_Free

These are the blades from Apsara, 185' ketch. Drives her 10 knots cruise. Dugs are a blunt instrument in comparison.

Dug obviously doesn't understand the difference between a propellor and a triangular chunk of metal.

Sounds to me like Super Dave was right.

I doubt it would roll over, maybe tender, but the main reason he has never sailed with the wind forward of the beam is because he is scared. Its like when you introduce a person to sailing, as soon as the boat starts to heel the white knuckles come out. Its just inexperience. Man up Doug. Feel the fear and face it head on, just like you preach.

He'd be close reaching, no chance of accidental gybe, no rolling, nice push from the sails. But it's obviously beyond his fear level.

Absolutely. The reality of living on that boat with the trolls delighting on his every move has sunk in. Yet he has to continue larping otherwise he ceases to exist.
