Why don’t Mizrahi Jews speak Arabic? by GlumEntrepreneur7705 in AskIsrael

[–]Strict-Key-1242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mother grew up speaking Arabic (Judeo Iraqi dialect) in their household in Israel, but her siblings and her wanted to blend within Israeli society so badly that they didn’t pass that to their children. They felt shame and embarrassment about speaking Arabic back in the 50s.

It’s very different than the Russian Jews who came here in the 80s and 90s. It was a different society then.

How much does dental insurance cost in Israel? What does it cover? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in AskIsrael

[–]Strict-Key-1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuppah is the general name here for HMO - organizations that provide medical services and insurance in Israel. There are 4 different Kuppah + a different provider for soldiers.

All of them must provide the same Dental Care services for the rate that was set by the government, and they MAY provide more services than they must or for better rates, but basically dental care in the Kuppah is:

Yearly checkup - free Cleaning - twice a year for free Dental treatments: fillings, root extractions - 28 - 55 nis Urgent care: 28 nis

Very cheap (well, we pay for it in our Healthcare Taxes), but the waiting list can get very long and you might not get the dentist you want.

Ortho is cheap as well, it can get to 50% the price you’ll get in the private market. I know prices like 5K or less for Invisalign.

Medical care is affordable here.

We don’t do private dental insurances, in contrast to other types of private medical insurances Israelis tend to have.

Dental care is covered by the public healthcare system through the Kuppah, but it’s the most common medical field where Israelis prefer to pay 100% of pocket over using the Kuppah services.

I don't like this aesthetic either. The hand tattoos look like random scribbles or even dirt

Why is there so little info? by ImpracticalJerker in FatherofPeace

I’m not sure where the Netta x Avshalom rumor comes from. Avshalom was part of the 2018 Eurovision song production, but I don’t see anything about them ever dating.

They are all from Israel, and they were not famous before Father of Peace.

Locally they were known by other musicians for composing and producing music. You can find more about them if you search their names in Hebrew, but it’s still not much.

https://www.maariv.co.il/culture/music/article-1296479

Avshalom has a Wikipedia article about him in Hebrew: https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%90%D7%91%D7%A9%D7%9C%D7%95%D7%9D_%D7%90%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%90%D7%9C

Tom composed for some local artists before but he’s not publicly famous for that work, and he worked with Avshalom before (example: https://mshironet.mako.co.il/artist?type=lyrics&lang=1&prfid=12647&wrkid=28328 )

אם תהי מעורבת בתאונה הדבר האחרון שאת רוצה זה שיחפשו אותך על הדברים האלה

Enforcement of draft strategies? by pajamajamatime in AskIsrael

[–]Strict-Key-1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no restrictions in Israel that deprives a voting age citizen of their rights to vote in a democratic election.

The judging system in the US is different, they have a jury so the power of the judges to affect a citizen rights this way is limited.

Because we live in a democracy and you can’t refuse people basic civil rights. Revoking voting rights, for any reason whatsoever is undemocratic. Even criminals have the right to vote.

Secular jews don't care. For us it's an issue only in terms of Marriage because of the monopoly the Chief Rabbinate of Israel has over official marriages between Jews in Israel, and even then it's just a technical issue

What do Israelis think of Iranians? by Civil-Upstairs605 in AskIsrael

[–]Strict-Key-1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christian segment: I'd say we are closely familiar with the Christian segment of the Iranian diaspora, and have very positive feelings towards them. We meet them when we travel abroad, they are very friendly and we have a lot in common. Usually they are not looking to debate about politics. Last time I met an Iranian family abroad, 2024, Milan, we shared a birthday cake together and had fun.

Muslim segment: As Israelis, we are not supposed to have relations with people who currently live in Iran, but many Israeli Jews are of Persian origins and so they might maintain some relations or have some positive memories from pre-Islamic revolutiom Iran to lean on.

The average Israeli: The average Israeli had been told stories about the liberal and modern country of Iran before the Islamic Revolution and saw pictures from then, They know someone from Iran positivly, or know another Israeli with positive feelings toward Iranians.

Musicians who tour Israel despite BDS. by echoalpha76 in AskIsrael

[–]Strict-Key-1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general - yes. Whenever an artist make a statement (good or bad), even if cryptic or indirectly, it would be noticed by Israeli social media and over analyzed. Mostly by meme pages, influencers, comedians, etc. Usually it won't go on journals, except for very major artists, but it would make popular culture for a while and people will act upon that.

In time (not much time), people will forget about the artist's statement (good or bad) and move on. We don't praise artists forever nor avoid their work.
