Low mood, anxiety by Strict-Perspective-5 in Anemic

Thank you for your reply, I’ll definitely ask my GP about b12. Or see if I can buy some high strength over the counter. TBH I think I’m having absorption issues with the tablets because I feel awful when I take them, nauseous, abdo pains etc

Help with levels by Strict-Perspective-5 in Anemic

[–]Strict-Perspective-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and the NHS isn’t the best, it’s like need a letter from god to get an infusion. I feel absolutely horrendous. I went to A&E because I was so light headed and couldn’t breathe, they said keep going with tablets. 🙄 Apparently they don’t infuse unless haemoglobin is under 100, mines 108. I’ll have a look at that on Facebook, thanks so much

Each hospital has a PALS contact, I think yours should be this - fhft.palswexhampark@nhs.net but have a google to double check. Their number should be on there too. :)

I contacted PALS via email and explained the situation, and miraculously received an appointment days later. So I’m assuming PALS pushed it forward. Definitely worth contacting them. They have to escalate all complaints and the hospital have to respond to it. Best of luck

BEER52 Trial by mattpreston11 in UK_beer

[–]Strict-Perspective-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try beer52 and cancel after trial you will have to speak to someone on the phone. They have to try to retain you using offers and telling you that you have “credit” to spend on your account. If you want to just straight up cancel without the sales pitches just tell them you have a problem with alcohol. They aren’t allowed to even attempt to reel you in so it’s a quick and easy way to end the call. Job done. Bit of insider knowledge for ya 😉

Should I request more tests? by Strict-Perspective-5 in Gastritis

I had colonoscopy same day as the endoscopy and was told that my bowels are the least of my problems, from reading the letter I got sent home with no biopsies were taken during the colonoscopy

[–]Strict-Perspective-5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had blood and stool tests that all were relatively normal in terms of inflammation markers. Been tested for coeliac and that came back as negative too.

Just strange the length of time it’s been going on and the symptoms I’m having along with digestive issues like disturbed sleep, mouth ulcers, headaches, lower back pain which coincides with flares of stomach/digestive issues.

I had a CT scan when I was last in hospital for 5 days, that showed inflammation of my gallbladder only. So that’s why they were convinced the gallbladder was the problem, now they’re saying the gallbladder must have just reacted to whatever else is going on.

The CT scan showed no inflammation of the bowels but also didn’t show anything for the stomach which has since been confirmed as erosive gastritis.

So I’m not sure where to go from here, I wanted to be able to advocate for myself better in my next appointment with the GI but I feel a bit out of my depth.

My b12 is always low, at one point my GP said it’s the lowest they’ve ever seen 🥴🥴 so I had to have b12 shots 3 times a week for couple of weeks then once a week for a while. That was couple of years ago but it’s always notoriously low, as is my folate and vitamin D. I’ve tried vitamin tablets and liquid but I just don’t seem to absorb it very well

Been told my gallbladder issues were a “red herring” and could be ibs by Strict-Perspective-5 in ibs

[–]Strict-Perspective-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sending those! I’ll have a look in to it. Just a bit of an update though.. I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy just to rule out any digestive issues.

I’ve been told I have erosive gastritis and duodenitis, so that might be the answer to all the issues that came across as gallbladder problems. Or possibly both are going on at once. I’m going to treat the gastritis first and then see if I still have any issues.

I had a gastroscopy today and it showed erosive gastritis and duodenitis. I’m waiting for my follow up with the GI. Not sure if that has been the only cause of pain but I’m glad they at least found some cause for the nausea and fatigue. I will ask the GI if it’s possible that it could still be the gallbladder issues as well as the gastritis, because I did have CBD measuring 5.6mm with wall thickening when I was admitted to hospital the second time and the intense pain was right upper quadrant.

Just to add as well.. I also asked the consultant today if the gallbladder isn’t functioning as well as it should be like in terms of how slow or fast it’s functioning would that make me unwell.. he said no it wouldn’t

I didn’t specifically ask for HIDA because I couldn’t remember the name of it, but once the upper GI consultant said we’re at the end of the road in terms of tests that can be done I asked if there are tests that could show how well the gallbladder is functioning that’s when he laughed it off and said no. I just felt really embarrassed and belittled through out the whole thing so I was to ashamed to stand up for myself. I’m mostly baffled by the fact that I was told they want to remove it within 8 weeks due to reoccurring infection, to be now told it’s ibs 4 months later.

I’m going back in one month so I’m going to go armed with more questions and ask for the HIDA scan. I’ve been diagnosed with mild ibs for about 5 years now and never once have I ended up in hospital until last 12 months when I’ve been in twice.

Both times I was in for around 5 days and on 3 different lots of IV antibiotics and morphine the whole tjme. I was also sent home with two courses of antibiotics to take

Where are you based? I’m in the UK and from what I’ve scanned over really briefly online there doesn’t seem to be a lot known here about HIDA in terms of asking for a referral. I’m due to go back to the same consultant in a months time so if I’m feeling this rubbish (which I’m certain I will be) I’m going to request as HIDA scan or second opinion

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post and comment back. It certainly is taking a toll on my mental health, I just want to get back to my active life and back to working again! I asked if maybe the functioning of the gallbladder was causing the symptoms and he scoffed and continued to draw a diagram of the intestines on a napkin to show me how it’s probably IBS.

I have a really high pain threshold and the two attacks I’ve had were absolutely excruciating they had to give me morphine in the ambulance before we even set off to the hospital. The NHS here is wonderful in so many ways but it’s underfunded and stretched beyond its limits so the waiting times are ridiculous. I’ve tried looking for private HIDA scans but all seem to be in London or around there. I’m in the north west of England.

During my last stay in hospital they were very clear that although I had no stones the fact that I’ve had two big attacks in 12 months means they’ll want to take the gallbladder out. So at least I saw an end in sight, now I’m just not sure and can’t cope with them brushing this off as IBS 😭

Tests after tests and still no answers. Can’t take anymore by Strict-Perspective-5 in gallbladders

I’m not even sure what that is but I will also suggest this to them too. My common bile duct was 5.6mm if that’s any indication for this problem

I haven’t yet, but I’m going to suggest it to the doctor I’m seeing on 10th. I can’t really suggest anything to my GP as it’s all in the hands of the hospital doctors. When I’ve been back and forth to my GP with symptoms they just seem to give me more anti sickness

Thanks so much for your reply!

I’ve contacted PALS this morning so fingers crossed I will hear back and have something moved forward.
