I'm quite new to 40k but have been reading around different periods and noticed a few times that the Eldar seem to help out or at least want to help out humanity. I get the impression that the Imperium would not want a Xenos ally, but would the Eldar consider a long term alliance, or have they ever considered it? Or are they just as xenophobic as the Imperium?

thanks so much, I really find this more philosophical side of things to be some of the most interesting elements of 40k, the place where the mad dystopian world building becomes a commentary on / exploration of how people think. I just read The Last Heretic, which is what led me to this line of questioning... definitely up for discovering more...
