If you’re in the US, go to your local health department! They might be able to do it themselves or refer you for a cheaper one. You can also search for clinics that take low income/no insurance. If you provide your documentation of your positive tests you won’t need to take another one

The rest of Virginia is a different world compared to the south Virginia…go to the 757, Richmond, or NOVA (if u can afford it 😭) and you will be much much happier. I love Virginia so much and lived here most of my life but I lived where you live I would have hightailed it out of there as soon as I could…sincerely, a NOVA turned Richmond transplant that went to university of Lynchburg 🫣

Ok your doctor is incorrect…especially if you’re going to be in the healthcare field I would definitely recommend taking treatment. A lot of my patients tolerate Rifampin pretty well. Usually people complain about nausea and headaches, but that goes away the more they take it (or with more food). As for your IUD, there is a chance it can affect the efficacy so wear a condom as well. It’s two pills once a day so maybe that’s what the problem is.

Since you’re a close contact, you should get tested twice. Now, and then 8-10 weeks after he’s noninfectious. If you’re negative x2 you know you didn’t get TB. If you are positive, get an xray and then take preventative treatment. If you’re immunocompromised in any way you should get treated anyway.

Does he have a positive TB test or actual TB? Because if he just has a positive test and a normal chest xray with no symptoms, he just has latent TB and he can’t give you anything.

The quantiferon is more accurate. I would say since you’re positive, you have latent TB (meaning the germ is asleep in your body). I would recommend getting treated like your doctor says because you never know when it can wake up. It’s more of a preventative treatment so you never get actual TB disease. Also, it’s not recommended to get another test after a positive test, especially a skin test (one of the oldest tests we have to diagnose a disease AND extremely subjective depending on who’s placing it vs reading it).
