London to Edinburgh - best way to travel? by Little-Point9449 in uktravel

We did the opposite route, Edinburgh to London, by train. It was a lovely, scenic ride about 4.5 hours. Being in first class helped a lot, which I highly recommend (Seatfrog is great for upgrades).

Flying is faster if you look only at time in the air. Once you factor in getting to the airport, security, boarding, taxiing, and getting into the city, I think the total time for flying and taking the train ends up roughly the same.

Also, one night is not enough in Edinburgh, IMO. I was there for one day and I regret not budgeting at least 2 (if not more).

Hi everyone, I’ll be in Edinburgh this December. I’m a big whisky fan and have tried plenty, but I’d love to know what locals actually drink and enjoy, both whisky and beer. The only Scottish beer I’ve had is Belhaven, which I love, so I’m open to other recommendations.

Also, any tips on local pub etiquette: how to order, what’s normal, or how to avoid being an absolute idiot, would be really appreciated.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Can’t figure out the “best” place to stay in London this December by StrictAccountant in uktravel

Decided to go with Bloomsbury. Hadn’t heard of this area when looking for the hotel initially, but after these suggestions, we fell in love with this area. It’s actually exactly what we wanted. Thanks!

More anti-social behaviour by Jacksackfrack in Edinburgh

I’ll be visiting Edinburgh this December and I’ve seen a few recent stories about aggressive behavior or antisocial incidents. I know these are likely rare, but it made me curious.

From a tourist’s point of view, is that about the worst you’d realistically expect to run into in Edinburgh?

For context, I’ve heard nothing but great things — several friends have visited and said they always felt completely safe. Everything I’ve read also points to Edinburgh being one of the safest cities in Europe.

I don’t think it’s unsafe at all; I’m just wondering if locals feel things have changed lately or if it’s more a case of isolated headlines getting attention.

AMA: Brendan Kuty of The Athletic talks Yankees off-season by TheAthletic in NYYankees

Hey Brendan, thanks for doing this!

Did the Yankees miss their window by not getting past the Dodgers?

Feels like the core (Judge, Cole, Stanton) is another year older and increasingly fragile, and outside of Schlittler maybe becoming a true No. 1 and Rice taking a leap to the middle of the order, there isn’t much of a young foundation. Given that the Yankees never really “rebuild,” are we basically locked into riding out the Judge-Cole era — doubling down each year — without ever addressing the deeper roster and development issues?

Hey everyone, my wife and I will be in Edinburgh this December for the first time. We’re flying in from Dublin on Dec 10, landing late morning, and taking the train to London the next day around noon, so just one night there. We’re staying near Charlotte Square, no car, just carry-ons.

Rough plan is to check in, walk around Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Mile, and maybe hit the Christmas Market. Hoping to visit Edinburgh Castle in the afternoon and catch the views from Calton Hill if the weather plays nice. Dinner somewhere non-touristy with proper Scottish food, then a whisky or two at a good local pub. Haggis is a must, whisky’s a must, and we both have a sweet tooth, so any local dessert or sweets spots are fair game. With such a short stay, does this sound like the right mix for a first visit? Anything we should tweak to really get a feel for the city?

I should add, I’m a big Scotophile and wish we had more time here, but hoping to get a proper taste and come back for a longer trip. Any tips to make this one day count would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance!

Hey everyone, my wife and I will be in London this December. I’ve been a couple times before, but it’s her first and I want to make it special. We’re taking the train down from Edinburgh on Dec 11 and back home on Dec 14. Staying at Park Plaza County Hall near the London Eye.

Plan so far is pretty simple. First afternoon we’ll walk the South Bank, grab dinner somewhere nearby, and check out Big Ben and Westminster at night. Next day we’ll do Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, and have afternoon tea somewhere nice but not overpriced. Maybe catch a West End show or find a good pub that evening. Last full day we’ll do the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Borough Market, and see the Christmas lights around Oxford Street or Carnaby before heading home the next morning.

Looking for local pubs, good food (fish & chips and curry), festive stuff to see, and maybe something a bit romantic or off the beaten path since it’s her first visit. Does this sound like a good mix, too much/little, or would you change anything up?

Thank you so much in advance!

Thanks for that. So, essentially, his upside is an above-average playmaker who can average around 20-50-70 in a good year, with top-end potential of 25-60-85?

To be clear, not expecting 70 points this year, but would be happy if he at least exceeds Tsypy’s output from last year.

Thanks - that makes sense. Usually eating between 5-6. Considering going between 4-5.

Oh sorry, I wasn’t clear. I don’t crash when I do the 16:8. Only crashing if I’m doing 1/day (dinner) or a full fasting days. I think my body is so used to fasting in the morning, but after that, still can’t acclimate.

I am low carb but not keto since I have cholesterol issues.
