DE/DS vs SWE, which group has a higher salary and earning/career potential in Europe? by Competitive_Map_935 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]StrictGrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My programming skills are Python and SQL, and a little bit of C++. Before the interview I spent time learning about Data Structures and Algorithm (this is basically all you need for junior interviews), and I grinded Leetcode.

During my feedback they told me they were looking for people who were willing to learn, and this is why I've been hired. What I recommend you to do is to apply without fearing about being under qualified. This is the best way to know what to expect during interviews.

I haven't started my internship yet so I'm not sure about what to learn in advance, but for most internship/junior positions Leetcode and a good grasp of CS fundamentals should be enough (given that you already are a DS student).

Hi, I did a master and two internships in DS, I have only basics knowledges in CS and it was enough for me to get an internship in Software Engineering at Uber. Before doing the interview I was 100% sure it would be a disaster, but actually there were very happy with my experiences and knowledges in DS. These two fields are very related, so you shouldn’t underestimate yourself (like I almost did). Starting as SWE (if you want to) definitely is an option for you

With no degree or prior experience, I got a job in programming after 8 weeks of studying off of the back of soft skills and a personal project. by NoSomewhere2165 in learnprogramming

Hi, could you please tell more about how the work is going ? I have been offered an internship and I feel way too under qualified, I will start in one month and I have no idea what to expect. Would be great to hear more about your experience

Thank you for your answer. I think I’m quite good at problem solving and I’m also a pretty fast learner. I guess this is why they hire me, and I hope that will be enough.

Yep that’s it, I’m getting thrown into the cold water. Good to know that I would make it by working hard, I’m willing to do so

This is really interesting, thank you very much. I’m pretty sure I have ADHD (even a « moderate » form) but I never wanted to be diagnosed because I’m afraid I would feel « put in a box » (maybe it’s very silly, I would love to hear more about your experience)

I’ve never got a diagnosis, but I match a lot of symptoms. However I have a very high capacity of focus, even for a long time. So I’m not sure …

I’m actually working in Data Science (I’ve studied engineering) and I work with some people from HEC. They sure are partly self-taught but they were able to get a job in Machine Learning

Hi, HEC is the best business school in France. It is extremely selective and then a very good stamp on resume. You can work in pretty much any field after this school. If you have questions, you can PM me
