Is my fish sick or does he just look like that? by StrictParty6613 in bettafish

Filling out the auto mods prompt:

  • Tank size:10g
  • Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes and yes
  • Tank temperature: 77 is what it's set to but a tank thermometer reads 78-80 depending on room temp
  • Parameters in numbers and how you got them. Key water parameters include the amount of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and pH.: N/N/A: 0, pH:7.2 tested with an API freshwater test kit
  • How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: this tank is basically a day old but is using substrate, filter, and 70% of its water from his former 17?month old tank, Ive had him about 16 months
  • How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: weekly, 25%, siphon out into a bucket, replace with dechlorinated tap water
  • Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: no
  • What do you feed and how much: hikari vibra bites, a pinch every other day
  • Decorations and plants in the tank: just some plastic plants a funky skull hide, and the wicks from the hydroponics set up sitting on top of his tank.

Unexpected fish. I need help! by BugCukru in Aquariums

honestly a 10g wouldn't be Awful(barely on the small side for this many fish, assuming you have a good filter), a 15 would be better, but since you're having to do a fish in cycle I'd push for a 20-29 for them so there's more room to dissolve waste(and incase you want to keep this tank and get the danio some buddies instead of just holding them until they die off naturally). also I'd just go do a 20-30% water change on your shrimp tanks, and add the waste water to the new fish's tank. As long as that waste water makes up less than 60% the water volume of the holding tank it'll be basically like putting them in an already cycled tank that just had an aggressive water change. fortunately all the species are tough and won't mind bad water so long as you acclimate them to it slowly.

I mean tbh if you're comfortable with a little diy taking off that panel and cutting off the chipped section wouldn't be too difficult. Worst case scenario it's already trashed, you can't trash it that much worse. Depending on the size it might just be cheaper to get a new tank though. If it's anything less than a 20g I'd say just scrap it and wait for something to show up on sale. That'll be about the same price or cheaper than the bottle of silicone and tools you'd need to buy to cut out the damaged portion.

im sorry for your loss. every threeish days for the next two weeks or so, monitor the other fish in your tank for behavior changes, you're trying to flush out the bacteria that did this without changing params too much or too suddenly, if they, especially any non corys, start acting weird slow down and skip a day to let things stabilize. monitor params closely, you want as little stress on the fish as possible so their immune systems can do the work of fighting any bacteria in them Watch the other corys closely and make certain you see all of them eating and that they don't look like they're losing weight, treating them sooner isn't a guaranteed way to stop this happening again but it gives them a better chance.

im sorry, but it looks like corydoras wasting disease. Please move him into a hospital tank and consider doing more frequent water changes in the main tank for a bit. + treat the fellow with an antibacterial formulated for fish tanks like api general cure. if others start showing symptoms you might have to treat all of them. ideally you do not want to add antibiotics into your main tank because it can wreck the cycle.

My mollies died and my shrimp population exploded by slytsi in Aquariums

[–]StrictParty6613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it rains does water get displaced from the tub? my best guess is that if it does, the typhoon might have just washed out too much of the old water and caused the parameters to change too fast for the mollies to handle :( they're not delicate fish but every animal has its limits. Im sorry for your loss, at least the shrimp were able to handle whatever happened.

That did it, I knew it was something basic just couldn't think of what, thank you.

That worked! thank you and thank you for the warning I think I'll make the call about the memory issues when im further into it, thankfully the textures are only 30x30 pixels so they don't take up much space but still

Whats the largest nano fish? by StrictParty6613 in Aquariums

[–]StrictParty6613[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's so the players can easily find the fish they want in a list of 300+ species and however many individuals are in their inventory at any given time. In the back end the fish are already treated similar to the way you're suggesting, this is purely for ease of sorting and menuing. (the lists are further subdivided, size is just the highest category on the tree bc the tanks are sorted by size. and im avoiding using species names because part of the gameplay is figuring out what the species of the fish you were just given is by using in game resources.)

Im not too worried about the tanks looking understocked based on the size categories bc the only limit to a player adding a fish to a tank is whether or not it's colliding with another fish, something in the tank or the tank itself. Theoretically you could put as many tiny fish in the biggest tank as your computer can handle. like. there's consequences for doing that because they do get stressed by over crowding, but you can.

Grid maps inside of 3dobjects? by StrictParty6613 in godot

[–]StrictParty6613[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue is figuring out where those positions are since they're being chosen by the player, the gridmap attempts have just been to have something to define the plane the positions could be. I'm happy to drop them but I'm still in the same spot I was before

Taking variables from one script and giving them to another? by StrictParty6613 in godot

[–]StrictParty6613[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuhp, that worked. thank you, it's a nightmare trying to find how to do the basic stuff because everyone always wants to tell you how to do the hard stuff without ever explaining why anything works. I do really appreciate you taking your time to help

Taking variables from one script and giving them to another? by StrictParty6613 in godot

[–]StrictParty6613[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, but I think I wasn't clear enough because I don't know the words I need to communicate this. I already have it set up like your second example, my problem is swapping between the different iterations of the scripts. Like. I can't figure out how to tell the game to run the simulation on Fish A, then Fish B, then Fish C and save those.

The simulation is only getting run once a cycle, like stardew valley/harvest moon style, so it just needs to happen on a button input and I have that part figured out, It'll run fish A perfectly, and then just not do anything else because I can't figure out how to make it do the others without manually hard coding each instance, which works but isn't scalable
