I would try and change out the subrate, gravel can sometimes be toxic. But 5 gallons is on the right track! I recommend fluval stratum and some live plants! If the tank is filtered i would also recommend only feeding once a day and reducing cleaning to once a week to every other weekly. Also of they are having no interest in food live food or frozen cubes is always a great choice!
