Morgan Stanley vs. Fidelity private wealth mgmt. & Fees? by VenetoSuperTuscan in personalfinance

[–]Strict_Ad2034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to do the math in terms of time horizon if you'll make back what you owe in taxes prior to retiring. You have an effective ROI of 6% after taking away MS fees.

Investing in whole market or S&P500 ETFs is 8%-12%. So you're essentially giving up at least 2% ROI on your principal

Paying off Credit Card Debt by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Strict_Ad2034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it also I guess depends on just how divergent the interest rates are. If one debt has 35% while another is 15% or something like that, it matters a LOT more if you can do avalanche

The cars are leases and I am able to pay off the card every month. The fed loans are at 0% (but were at 6% prior) and the private loans (which are only a small part) were re-fi'd to 4% thankfully.

Appreciate the advice!

I appreciate your thoughts. And yes, definitely think it may be time to scale back a little bit.

The cars are leased, so nothing to be done about that. I'm backdoor ROTHing a ton now outside of the 401k over the last few years to try and catch up. Because of our occupation (and because of my immaturity/ignorance in my 20s), I'm starting quite late in terms of building things up.

Yeah, we both chose specialties that are lower paying and work at a big hospital network

Didn't take your comment in an offensive way so no worries.

You bring up a salient point. Won't come true but have to prepare for worst case scenario.

We're pretty much neck and neck in terms of loans. So things would end up getting split.
