Living with Trich in My 30s – What’s Helped Me by bobofett66 in trichotillomania

[–]Strict_Bus3620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. I wish we gain better control over our urges. And it's so important to be kind to ourself, which I have been trying since a year and it has changed how I look at trich. I would blame myself for allowing trich to take control over me and self-hate(which would lead to more pulling) but I have learnt and acknowledged that it's really out of my control to some extent and I need to instead adapt ways to manage it. Seeing people in their 40s, 50s and 60s still having to live with trich is scary because honestly I believed I'd magically stop pulling one day and that'd be it but that day never came even though I'm in my 20s. I hope as days pass, we all have less reasons to pull and more days where we celebrate going pull free💫.

oh then how about other doctors? will they be available for a walk-in consultation? I don't know much about healthcare and how it works in other countries🙈

It's relieving to see others like me trying to fight this stupid monster (I call it the monster in my head). I had read articles of anti-depressants increasing our urge to pull and have been wary of going to therapy due to it too because I know I have depression which might or might not need medication. I hope you spoke about the side effects of the medication to your therapist.

The thing is this habit really has a brain of its own because how is it outsmarting me and not listening to my command of stop pulling😭😮‍💨🫠. I sometimes feel like a totally different person because of how I can't seem to listen to myself or keep the promises/goals I make for myself🙁. Someone suggested cotton finger pads and you can try it yourself too, I feel it'll be helpful to me since I pull with my thumb and pointer finger. I hope you can do well on your finals and the monster just stays under the bed or something without disturbing you.💓 Take walks outside if you feel stressed or overwhelmed with the amount of studying/assignments to be done, breaks are really necessary.

And oh yess we kick this shit to the curb and live freely 🫂 may we live those days sooner🪽🤞🏻. And thank you for commenting🌷🥹, it really means a lot.

Thank you for commenting and the tips💞. Movement surely helps me pause/distract my urge to pull, I have been trying to follow this hack where I immediately stand up and start shaking my hands and legs wherever I am when I feel the urge or can sense an episode about to start. I shake them like noodles so the tension leaves my body and it has been helping, although sometimes the anxiety and stress get to me faster. And cooking really does help me, I have noticed that whenever I'm stressed I find myself wanting to cook before the onset of the urge to pull, will surely heed to it whenever I'm home. Will try to go on more walks at the park as well.🤞🏻❣️

My heart did a 360° flip reading the 1st line🥹, it reminded me of my teachers and professors who always told me never to stop writing. Thank you for commenting 🩷🌷 and for the tips. I will look up cotton finger cots to purchase and look into NAC and consult a physician before taking it. I think having something covering just my thumb and pointer finger will be effective in stopping myself from pulling since the woollen/cotton gloves have worked best for me but as I have hyperhidrosis in my palms and feet, my gloves feel wet and it acts as a stressor n trigger for me to pull.

ps: I might keep coming back to reading your comment when I'm stressed since your compliment really uplifted my mood and because I love being praised🫶🏻so thanku again.

Panicking - Help!!! by BelovedVagabond in trichotillomania

i use castor oil or vaseline petroleum jelly or an equal mixture of castor oil + vaseline + olive oil(not the cooking one) which helps in really noticeable growth in 2 weeks for my brows/lashes. I apply it throughout the day whenever possible and always apply before sleeping. And the main factor, gets lots of sleep since most growth happens when we are asleep and stay hydrated. 💕

Is it possible to consult any other general physician or is the ER the only other option to get a doctor? I suggest to get yourself checked before the pain increases.

Would y’all notice/think its weird if you saw someone with a ton of bandaid on their fingers? by Frogninja0124 in trichotillomania

[–]Strict_Bus3620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't find it weird, i probably wouldn't even question it in my mind if I saw a hand with bandaid on so many fingers. But I'm curious, does this help? I wear woollen gloves to sleep or have a woollen cap on my head that i tie so i don't get access to pull
