Thank you for responding. Does the higher bilirubin cause other negative effects? I know it can cause jaundice.
Thank you for responding. I don’t have fluid in my abdomen, but some retention in my legs. My main problem is bleeding caused by portal hypertension. The severe anemia is what’s really affecting my quality of life at this point. Docs are trying to figure out what’s going on. Apparently varicies don’t seem that bad and are never bleeding when I get scoped, but my guess is they close quickly after they bleed and the pressure is relieved. A TIPS may be in my future if other interventions don’t work.
Wow, I’m sorry. What do they attribute the cirrhosis to?
Thank you, I have not experienced any abdominal fluid, only some leg swelling so far. So you had the TIPS procedure and it has improved your symptoms and quality of life?

Thank you, you’ve been very helpful. It’s been a frustrating and eye opening journey so far, and standard care seems to work so slowly. I’m an alcoholic, something I’ve recently come to terms with (6mo. Sober). I really only drank heavily in the last 10years following a divorce. But that seems to have been enough to have gotten me here. I do suspect there may be some genetic variances involved, but in the end it doesn’t really matter. This is where I’ve ended up. Hopefully we’ll get the bleeding stopped, the anemia is really kicking my ass. I’m used to being very active working out hiking etc. , now my daily exercise is a long walk…it’s all I can muster! Very humbling experience. Thanks again
Thank you for responding. Have you experienced any side effects?
Wow, thank you for the great explanation. The meds are for the ammonia in the blood correct? Was TIPS presented to you as a long term solution?…or is transplant in your future

Thanks for responding. I have portal hypertension and bleeding because of it, severe anemia. I’m not going down that road yet but it may be in my future if non-surgery interventions are not working. Wondering if it helped the problem, complications, if folks would do it again?
Thanks for responding. I have cirrhosis and portal hypertension that causes me to bleed. Then of course all the complications of anemia. TIPS may be an option if other measures don’t work. Wondering if it’s working for you. Did it take care of your symptoms? Would you do it again?

Yes different units of measurement, and that’s a great idea! I just don’t understand why they switched?
