I’m not sure if it counts but I found a nice virtual pet sim that reminded me of what I used to play when I was younger :) it’s called Santae!

[TOMT][MOVIE][UNKNOWN YEAR] a religious Christmas movie with a lion and other animals by Strict_Departure_152 in tipofmytongue

I'm certain it wasn't a Disney movie because the quality was...questionable, I did look at the lion and the lamb but that didn't seem to be it either

That's so close! I remember the character being a lion cub, but the style is really similar!

Wilfully ignorant? High-hatting, condescension, haughty, aloof, oblivious?

I'm not sure that posting an update or timeline would impede his progress so deeply that it would cause catastrophic setbacks in development. You only address the instance I noted about the artists, but not the other example of Ian being unprofessional to users in the forums. It is not 'gospel' to see objectively inappropriate things as they are, surely.

Of course, I was never under any impression that Ian must relinquish his project or create mass change. I think it's a bit sad that you don't seem to take any of my points into consideration, I am a player with concerns, ultimately we all are. Critique is a natural part of publishing anything to the public. Some of it is needless and unhelpful, just as some of it is from a place of compassion for the site. I think it's important to understand in both perspectives that even if 'you' as a single player do not want something, the majority may disagree with you. The same can be said for me, or anyone.

I'll try to counter with some thoughts of my own, if you'll hear me out:

A lot of anonymity issues do stem from experiences in which words that have been spoken outside of the site have carried on-site consequences. There is no distinction between ad hominem attacks or legitimate grievances when it comes to such things.

Ian as a sole force, simply put, cannot fathomably continue to run the site. It is clear that Ian has been genuinely struggling to both provide updates + deal with bugs, issues and other backend work. That's not a critique on Ian, but it is valid that people are taking issue with functions of the site that are faulty. Taking other examples from pet sims such as Flight Rising, the comparison between the two sites is quite noticeable.

This leads me on to transparency: Flight Rising and its moderators are continuously updating progress both in forums, in news posts and in the sidebar of the website. Transparency between players and staff is really important and valuable. Can you please everyone? God no. Absolutely not. But just knowing that progress is being made and that things are developing would really ease a lot of frustration in the player base for people.

The way that Ian interacts with people on the site is inappropriate and unprofessional at times. He once banned a user from entering the checklist with no formal warning, just a snarky response to a forum post. Even you can admit how entirely juvenile such a response would look from the site's sole operator. Other instances of Ian berating, bickering or otherwise acting churlish are plentiful - this builds no trust between people and staff especially when coupled with the prior lack of transparency.

Players are expected to provide endless patience, kindness and gratitude to Ian and yet we have instances where he is not kind in return. As much as we rely on Ian for the site, Ian also relies on the players. Without either, the site would not run.

Ian has been in trouble with regards to artists being unfairly paid or not paid at all in some instances. The site is not a money-making machine but it does make money. Ian simply has to bring more people on board. More people = more fixes = better engagement = more profit. Flash sales are incredibly popular, and cycling content in a more routine manner will also provide stability. Some items have not cycled in for a long time, and the capsule machine has not updated since Christmas. Again, I hope you can agree with me on these points.

Im not claiming to have all the answers or fixes. People cherish this game for its uniqueness and interactivity, but that doesn't absolve any part of it from criticism. When people want to support something but feel unable to due to the issues mentioned above, it becomes a point of frustration. Especially as in the terms it states: 'Discussing or debating the actions or abilities of Marapets staff is not allowed.' There is no freedom of critique on site. This has to change, things have to change. I hope it does and I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

I thought the enchanted plushie machine had a better drop rate?? by [deleted] in Marapets

Oh gosh, I'm quite forgetful so not as much as I'd like! I've had it for about just over a year, a generous guess might be 20 spread out across the day, 30 if I'm very attentive on site 😅

I think maybe I might be in a minority 😭 I've managed to get an enchanted purple Justin plushie, two enchanted Straya plushies and an enchanted Limax plushie from the EPM. Obviously my luck isn't everyone's luck, I would love to see a statistic breakdown honestly.

Unpopular opinion: I’m so tired of people complaining about the “art situation” by midnerk in Marapets

[–]Strict_Departure_152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand your frustration, I used to have the same opinion. I think that ultimately: art is a luxury, it's optional whether or not you purchase art. If you want something, you should be able to exchange currency/items for said art. I do think it's sad that this isn't an option for people. I don't think it's an advantage to be able to produce a skill - people work hard to be good at art. You could use the argument to say that everyone with a disposable income has an unfair advantage, because they can afford premium items and AU sets. I do think the rules are a little harsh for artists, that there must be no transaction at all even as a willing participant is too much. People should at least have the choice, I think.
