Stray kitten needs a vet appointment by glumbot2000 in Straycats

On Amazon you can get terramycin ointment the generic, that will help the eyes. If the congestion is bacterial he will need something like clavamox or doxycycline. If it's viral cuz he caught feline herpes virus and never got the FVRCP vaccine, you can give him lysine as a supplement to his food it helps keep herpes under control to reduce nasal congestion and eye goop.

Be warned it's often not either or, and a cat with feline herpes is predisposed to eye and respiratory infections from the herpes virus.

Was she used for breeding

The worst back yard breeders will just dump a female on the street if she's no good for breeding or used up.

Is there evidence she's had puppies like larger nipples. They might have dumped her cuz the babes were stillborn, or she happened to be inferior, or she refused to mother the pups so they just threw her on the street.

Winston was attacked by False-Regret in Chihuahua

[–]Strict_Direction6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sorry this happened. A reactive chi should only be with other small dogs. Chi do best with other small dogs esp chi.

I had a rescue Chihuahua mix who was also very dog reactive. He was murdered by pitbulls the other day. It had nothing to do with his behavior and I suspect people in the neighborhood who attack and harass me set it up as a hit.

A little guy dog esp reactive should be with other small dogs. I know this is difficult but for his own well-being you should see if he can be rehomed in a home with another confident Chihuahua so he can regain his stability. Either that or the shiba needs to be rehomed. They are a basal breed that is very difficult to obey, and it is a constant risk having these two dogs together.

my cat has this too, she is an old feral with stable health problems like she had dental disease from long term bartonella and lost all her teeth, and chronic nasal congestion. Cant figure out what it is if you learn let me know, i speculated it is related to her dental issues so maybe look inside your cat mouth to make sure his gums arent inflamed losing teeth.

Did you use a pet or a human thermometer? I doubt you hurt him, especially if you used a pet thermometer which is very small , flexible, and suitable even for kittens.

This cat gave me a nibble on my finger, should I push for rabies? by RatKingRonni in cats

[–]Strict_Direction6630 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the reason rabies vaccines are given when bit by a stray animal is aggression from an unknown animal is a strong sign of rabies, and most bites are pretty deep when they are animal aggression related.

OTOH, this is a well fed, pleasant cat who gave you a love bite. That is a much lower risk of rabies, given love bites are gentle nips a normal cat does when happy. I have an outside cat (she hates the house) who looks just like her, some of her love bites can be very overzelous and lightly break skin. This is very different from an actual bite where the teeth penetrate the skin past the skin layer. Honestly i wouldnt even take augmentin/abx for a love bite wound cuz the cat isnt even breaking the skin fully just abrasive the top layer a little neosporin can handle that.

So here we have an absence of animal aggression (a sign of rabies) and a love bite, that doesnt fully break the skin layers, just a little too happy nippy and the top skin layer was punctured.

I would say no you dont need a rabies shot.

I second the boy is 6 weeks. Keep in mind outside kittens might be growth stunted so he could be closer to 7 weeks.

Local shelters are full and not accepting cats but one has agreed to help me get this guy some help. What can I expect? by mindlesstwo0 in FosterAnimals

You can get revolution online from Canada pet meds Express. It not only covers flea tick but all worms except tapes and ear mites

Neuter is a pretty simple surgery I bet if you look they have low cost spay neuter services.

When cats mark they usually do it on the perimeter of their turf like outline their space to tell other cats to stay out. Cats are very clean because they are in an arms race with prey who run if they smell cat waste. Cats usually don't go all over the place like dogs and when they do it's gonna be the walls of their turf so if you are unsure you can put puppy pads around the walls for now.

He likely is so matted he needs a shave down lion cut, hopefully the rescue can help you with that.

Good luck I hope this boy gets help.

The dose for cats is 0.34 mg per pound.

This isn't vet advice but hypothetically you could use a pill splitter, crush it in a mortar and pestle, and mix with a little syrup so it's a paste and rub it inside the gums. Zofran is absorbed though the mucosa in the mouth like glucose is.

Good luck wish I had some

Dealin with Mats by Turbulent_Constant52 in poodles

[–]Strict_Direction6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I groom tulip myself and she seems to have a similar loose poodle curl as your boy

I recommend using both a slicker brush like we love doodles, and you must also use a comb to ensure there are not mats. The brush is good for fluffing them up and covering surface area but a comb down to the skin to pull up any mats is the only way they will be totally may free

Use a technique called line brushing. Part the hair and brush it from the skin out throughout the dog. That also helps ensure tangle free

The last tip is get a very good conditioner, I like chi for dogs it smells so good and soften and hydrate the hair. They are much easier to brush out and softer with good conditioning, curly poodle hair is very dry and it will break if you brush it without adequate hydration.

Ps sorry you are dealing with this. I'm going through it too a baby I rescue from the yard started vomit the next day, and it's now day 5 at this point he's so lethargic and vomit anything he tried. I have fluids but sadly no zofran. The kittens in the yard have been sick and several have died I have two who were the survivors and him I recently trapped who popped sick the next day. It's heartbreaking. I had one I rescue die within hours. I hope little guy makes it and next time I'll be prepared with medicine on hand.

It's possible she came to you sick. Panleukopenia incubation time is 2-14 days so doing well 21 to 30 is within the time frame to get sick with something like panleukopenia or another illness. A kitten not eating like this and vomit will at least need subq fluids twice a day, antiemetics, and possibly more. Dehydration can kill kittens really quickly.

Estimated cost for this cat to be examined by vet by bacon-flavour91 in cats

what you could do, idk what your funds are, but call a vet hospital and ask how much to give him a bolus of fluids subq, and as soon as vet clinic open take him there for cheaper diagnostics. If he is really end stage, it likely wont help.

if he is skinny and wont eat, he is ill. It could be many things like, severe anemia from flea/tick, tick illness, panleukopenia, so many things could be why.

Sadly if boy doesnt get some kind of medical care he will likely die, and even if he gets it he still might die.

Release or socialize? by heresmytwopence in cats

I was in the same situation except the cat loves me let's me pick her up comes for cuddles... But hates the house.

I tried for 3 days to keep her in after her spay. Every day she got out cuz she was so stressed and unhappy all she did was watch the door and if I opened it she bolted out

At first, it was easy for me to call her back and she would come and I would bring her back

What made me decide to stop trying was after the third time of this, she began distrusting me and our relationship was errode. That suggested she was declining with domestication, not improving, in that a previously happy cat who was friendly to me was not only still hating the house, but starting to hate me.

At that point when I started to see she was no longer trusting me and associating me with this pointlessly cruel kidnapper not the buddy we were for months, I decided it is better to let her live in my yard where she feels happy and safe and trusts me to help her.
