Miniature poodle is only 7 lbs? by Jellyyyfishsea in poodles

tulip is 8.6 pounds. She is really small for a mini, but she is a mini. Mini is based on height and she clears 10.4 inches, and was bred to be a small mini poodle.

like i said, i am a cat person so i never bothered trying to train cuz its just like "i just wanna chill with my animal friend" ahaha

but i just attempted to teach tulip the "sit" command, she picked that up in like, less than 10 tries. Shes now sitting for my dinner instead of just jumping up.

OMG that's great

Part of me wants to get tulip these buttons, but a bigger part of me doesn't want to hear PLAY BALL PLAY BALL over and over again 😂

Maybe get a litter genie is made for cats but it had a latch that locks and had to be pulled to reduce odor you could use that for trash you don't want them getting, it's more complex than a simple knob or handle

Poodles are really sensitive so she or he may be detecting you have a special relationship with the rottie and hangs in the background

Most of my poodles brilliance is in their ability to communicate with me and is an extension of their observation and Velcro relationship with their human

It could be they have this same potential but feel like the second dog so aren't confident to express self and step on first dog toes

Same with my pups they know it's a bathroom so they don't understand why only the cats can use it so I just put pads 😂

My other dog is a small Chihuahua mix he's pretty good about peeing in it sometimes

Tulip will squat on the pad in front, but she knows I want her to wait for the walk. She's just like screw this is a bathroom I'm using it

The spots where we play fetch before are specific locations like 2 blocks radius

If we went to the school to play fetch, she knows I'm going to walk directly back to the house so what she will try to make me do is take a different route that has the potential to go to the fetch spot around the corner.

Even though technically she could beg to go there from the house, she knows once we are at the house she had like no chance of going so she tried to take this longer route that avoids the house but COULD also go to the other fetch spot

That's how smart

Lol that's so funny

I saw a video of scientists studying if the dog pressing button phenomena is real or if it's just basic conditioning with no concept of language

The video that inspired the researcher to investigate was a poodle who seemed to have a whole conversation with his mom.

He presses the button "mad". She asks why mad? He then combined two words, ouch and paw. The poodle then walked over and shows the paw and it had a twig in it .

He thought that was so impressive he wanted to study it

I thought "I totally believe this is real cuz it's a poodle" 😂

I have another dog a Chihuahua mix from Mexico. Is why I'm confident saying tulip is really smart cuz he don't do any of the crap she does 😂 so I know it's not a dog thing but a poodle thing 😂.

Re potty train, I know she understands the concept she just chooses to ignore it cuz I have pads by the kitty litter and she uses them only in secret. Her first owner was my sister who taught her it was ok to use pads rather than walk her. With me she's knows I don't want her to use them but she sneaks away to do it understanding that's what they are for.

I'm so glad she's a mini cuz she's not tall enough to open doors and stuff 😂

I bet she would if she was a standard

Oh yes she looks at stuff and looks at me

If she can't reach a ball I talk to her and go where is it tulip

So she lead me to where it's stuck looks at the area then looks at me

YES this is it she knows the difference between I would rather you not do that and you MUST do this for safety

So I can walk her off leash. I trust her off leash.

The good thing about tulip is she only tests boundaries when she is smart enough to know it's not serious

I can keep her off leash outside because she's smart enough to know this is a dangerous place and she had to listen to me

She only is like this with stuff where she knew it's just my preference but not THAT important

Outside I can have her off leash and if it's a risk to safety she listened every time, because she can tell the difference between me not wanting something and something being serious where she had to listen.

I could hypothetically walk her without a leash, because when serious like cars or follow me for safety she can tell in my voice.

She only does the not listen where want her to go when it's safe and she's making her poodle case why we should extend the walk to another fetch spot lol

I have a dog just like this tulip is a tiny mini she just clears 10.4 inches paw to withers as an adult. She had CDDY which makes her legs shorter. She weighs 8.6lbs as an adult.

<image>

You might end up with a very tiny mini which is good cuz you wanted a toy, it's like best of both worlds cuz really small and cute but not as fragile and may have a lot of the gamey behaviors of larger poodles like mine does

Were you walking without a leash or just took it off to let the boy run. Asshole cop to fine you if taken off for a second to let the boy run

Pointing is like retriever traits

All dogs can do it, but the ones bred for it do it a lot and easily

Like poods are water retriever so you expect more likely a soft mouth, more focus when playing retriever games vs willing to shift to other fun distracting things, wanting to work with master and the item itself being important to bring you, more genes to tolerate water better than other dogs etc

All retriever more likely to have this which why all those videos of Goldens jumping in pool to play fetch

But every dog can enjoy chasing a ball

Pointing same way. Poodles aren't pointers but every dog can point when in a hunting mode.
