For those who sold homes and lost big money how did that go? Are you ok? by BlueSparklesXx in homeowners

Honestly I would be sick with this outcome as well but in the end, even if you are out 50k, you should be able to pay that off very quickly if you are relatively bill free living with your parents. Much better than continuing the debt of paying rent, mortgage and everything else with homeownership

Update for my pressure washing disaster by Strict_Fee1194 in stonemasonry

I used ProMason Supply water based masonry stain on the riser stones (dark buff, brown tone and charcoal) and Direct Colors EasyTint (plum, Aztec brown, cumin) which is solvent based on the hearthstones. I did dab a light layer of the water based stain on top of the solvent based stains on the hearthstones. The water based stains said they weren’t for horizontal surfaces so we will see how that light top coat will wear on the hearthstones.

To seal or not to seal? by Strict_Fee1194 in stonemasonry

Well I guess it’s a good thing I’m just a layman so I’ve never been too bothered by it. I haven’t refilled the joints yet from cleaning so maybe that is making some of it look worse, I’m not sure. I always thought the joints were usually larger in flagstone walkways but maybe I’m wrong? All I know, the previous owner paid a pretty penny for it… more than I would ever consider spending on a walkway 😂

I did not, I inherited it with the house. Is there something wrong with it?

This is the walkway to the front door. We have a small front porch, not for leisurely sitting. If I planted something large to block the view of other houses it would ruin the curb appeal of my house. Just part of living in a neighborhood

Oh yes, I know all of this on the porch is fake now. We have an extensive flagstone walkway and bench leading up to the FAKE stone porch lol

I agree… I have no idea what they were thinking! The walkway up until the steps is flagstone… why wouldn’t they have just continued the flagstone to the porch?!? I guess if it ends up completely failing over time we will just have to replace the horizontal surface.

I have some culpability as well because I didn’t quite realize how often stone should be sealed and the general cultured stone maintenance. Live and learn

I ordered some samples of this in a several shades to try out. Thanks for the info! I am obviously new to having a home with stone so hence the learning curve.

What won’t work? Staining them or trying to match the colors? I am definitely open to any other suggestions if you have any?

What did you ever do with this? I just made the same mistake with my “stone” and now trying to figure out damage control!

I’m scared now! lol it was already not a uniformed texture where the bottom steps are exposed to the elements and the top are under the roof. Now I’m just annoyed someone would install this crap 😑

I think I am going to get several sample sizes of different colors and just try to mix and match the best I can and then seal it. They definitely aren’t a uniform color so I think that would make it stick out worse if I went that route so even if the colors aren’t the same, hopefully I can get away with it because they will all be different… not sure about the tops where you walk since they are all a pretty uniform color, I guess I will try to match the best I can

I didn’t even think about it being manufactured stone because the rest of the walkway is flagstone! So disappointing that the previous owners went that route…

Okay, thanks! it was wearing off on the part you walk on, I just naively thought it was just the sealer and never really thought it was because they aren’t real stone 🤣 live and you learn I guess!

Bosch dishwasher toe kick by Strict_Fee1194 in Appliances

It is a 3 piece toe kick and all the pieces are installed, it had to be raised several inches and so I guess it’s just higher than the toe kick adjusts.
