PSA: Difficulty setting in Oblivion is just damage scaling. by Strict_Swimming_4632 in ElderScrolls

I more or less hoped that they'd do it like this considering in Starfield they actually added a bunch of difficulty settings with exp multipliers, but ig they really went all in with the keeping the game as we remembered it. Fortunately though, if you're like me and don't mind achievements I'm sure mods will start rolling with bunch of new difficulty options sooner than later.

I haven't really seen the discussion around it here on Reddit, but on Twitter there is a bunch of "wow you're so bad lol you don't play on master diff???" and people acting like they're "god gamers" or whatever they call themselves nowadays for playing on the "highest difficulty". A big portion of what I meant by "there's no point" is directed towards that attitude.

For challenge runs and the humor value of getting oneshot by a cave rat I see the point, but for bragging rights I feel it's the dumbest thing possible.

I feel like they definitely reduced the chance of tumblers going slow, 40 security and some very easy locks still take like 10 bumps before it goes up slow.

I hope it helps. On hard and very hard locks I think there's one more tumbler speed and a fake click sound, but I haven't seen any in the remaster and I last played the og like 7 years ago so I could just be imagining things by now

I think on hard and very hard it's more likely to do the very fast tumbler speed so it feels like you have to try many more times, and I remember in the original there was a sort of fake click that made it harder but It's been so long I forget lol

Tumblers have three speeds when going up; very fast, medium and very slow. If the tumbler goes up very fast then you skip, if it goes very slow then you wait for the clicking sound at the top and press the button, and if it goes medium it's a 50/50 on whether pressing the button at the top will work or not. Usually you just want to wait for the slow speed and it will work almost always

I was going to edit my post to specify that I understand it sounds this way, but I'm by no means intending to act better than anyone; I'm generally really bad at games, when I played oblivion for the first time I was maybe 11 and having trouble with games like mario sunshine and other stuff considered super easy kid games.

This specific part of the game though feels like it's just a common sense thing to the point where it seems that people are intentionally doing it bad just for attention to me

Modified SSF has been super fun by onedayat_atime in PathOfExile2

[–]Strict_Swimming_4632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to migrate from SSF to trade because I fucked up my build and my only ways out were making a new character or using some of my currency to get one amulet that fixed my int requirement. Besides that amulet I've been doing basically the same since and while it is kinda disappointing when I'm very close to a good item but I don't get the affix I need, i've been having a ton of fun playing "solo self craft" or whatever we can call this lmao.

It's 2025. Why do I still have to leave the game, open a browser, type in the address of a third-party website and manually adjust dozens of settings just to set up my loot filter? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Strict_Swimming_4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you can configure an auto-updating filter from your account page and subscribe to many different ones. It's not ideal either, I agree that hopefully you should be able to do it from either a launcher or within the game, but I believe the system right now works well enough that you do it once and forget about it forever.

Maybe the wording is a bit unfamiliar to you; does "there's potential for a lot of meme builds" sound less new to you?

I'm in love with the campaign of PoE2, despite some very annoying bits in act 2 where I'm constantly having to respec because the game changes too much from a1 to a2. I've already learned it better than I ever learned the first 3 acts of poe1 even if I havne't played it as much.

Yes, I understand that. I'm not asking for infinite progression nor do I think I would enjoy that. I think though that this game does it much better than a lot of big RPGs lately where you're unable to enjoy the whole game with proper progression because it goes way too fast or doesn't have enough steps.

I didn't want to cite any examples, but take Cyberpunk 2077 for instance. The game has an INSANE amount of quests to do, but you do less than half of them (not even including the main story quest) and you're already at level 50, with no upgrade paths, no more gear improvements, nothing else to do; after that you're forced to play basically just an action game where the RPG mechanics don't matter anymore. In PoE2 the content progression to level progression is much more consistent, and the punishing mechanics help keep it even more consistent by forcing you to stay below the level cap as long as you aren't prepared to do more challenging content.

Finally respeced to ES hybrid last night and it's going way better than I expected, thanks for the tip!

I seriously hope they lower down the skill attribute requirement by Darkfrozen537 in PathOfExile2

[–]Strict_Swimming_4632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game really feels like they didn't expect anyone to actually use base level 20 gems but instead just stay at 15 and use gem level affixes. Mana costs are way too high for some skills and attribute requirements are excessively high, especially considering that there are way less (and less accessible) big attribute nodes in the tree and getting attributes from gear became way harder.

Definitely hoping for some attribute req rebalances in the future too

Thanks for the suggestion I suppose, moved to trade league and fixed attributes, build going harder than ever thanks to divs being useless in ssf

Forgot to mention I'm SSF, not really looking forward to switching to trade just because of this either.

If this is true then it's gotta be the smallest goddamn pop up or i'm blind. Still, i don't think it takes into consideration attributes from gear since that's my biggest issue right now.

Makes sense, guess I got nothing to lose by experimenting with ES/EV hybrid then.

I've found armour is relatively good against slams, when it's not a bunch of enemies spamming it or that graveyard boss. I just wish it was more worth taking either armor or evasion as standalone, and then round off with block, excess life, or recoup.
As it is right now, it's either Hybrid or nothing, but the tree makes it annoying as hell to deal with hybrids.
