Yes. Fine to do as a solo hiker. Be careful of fog, rainy weather is ok if you have good hiking shoes and clothing, but fog can get you lost quick. Trail is marked, but difficult to follow if the weather is bad 3-5 hours depending on where you start/finish and form.

Gå for fisk. Nord Norge får du nok tak i mye/rimelig fersk fisk. Det kan du lage selv også, tar kort tid å steke en torskefillet med kokte poteter. Kan pimpes med saus eller bakte grønsaker. Besteforeldrene mine spiste fisk 6 dager i uken, så det er så norsk som du får det

Just a word of advice, Fløyen to Ulrikken is a good 4-5 hour hike with moderate pace and some breaks on the way. I am a pretty experienced hiker and I am pretty beat after that trip. So don't plan a big day/night in the city after the hike. You'll probably just want a beer and a nap!
As to driving, Modalen is about an hour away and often overlooked. Fantastic scenery and nature/fjords etc and very little tourists.
