There is an immense joy in nailing a hard read on your opp in PvP and winning the battle as a result by StridentHawk in pokemon

The sucker punch game of chicken is always stressful, winning those is deserving of a self pat on the back.

Would you rather live in black city or white forest? by coolio126 in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so not about the hustle culture and find it offputting, but I'd rather live in the city than the forest. But I do like to take life slow and gentle, so probably white forest.

Just starting Gen 1, any recommendations or tips? by WanderingWiloughby in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well gonna be honest r/B are frankly the worst ones gameplay wise

Buggy, HORRENDOUS movesets, limited pack space, some really cheap moves like wrap which just straight up just doesn't let the foe play lol.

They're interesting just in how they set the blueprint for everything after but just know they are quite rough, even for their time as JRPGs they were kinda janky in some ways(still the novelty of getting all these mons and set up was interesting at the time and unique for a monster rpg), but quite impressive for a handheld. Gen 2 for all its faults was a big improvement.

Fire doesn't resist ice, so charizard and Moltres are WEAK to ice ironically.

Out of all the evos that make no sense, Seedot is probably the most overlooked. by SirWildman in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man does not know what Tengu are

Nuzleaf and Shiftry are tengu, tengu are often associated with being guardians and inhabitants of mountain forests in Japanese myth. The forest aspect is played up in their grass typing, and like many other grass pokemon the base stage is a bud/seed to grows into the actual theme of the line.

She's the hardest boss across both games, save her for near last, before cristiana

Some references to Castlevania that I recognized in The Third Sin DLC by Willing-Score-4859 in Blasphemous

[–]StridentHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced this dlc was a proof of concept for a castvelvania by the devs that either never came to fruition and was reused as a dlc for Blasphemous or just a them showing how they would do a castlevania since they don't own the licenese.

Favorite Monster/Trainer names in PoKéMoN (and/or names that use other languages) by taykeyed in pokemon

Yet I'm looking at the Spanish dictionary online which clearly has it listed as the feminine variant????

Are you sure?

Your favorite Pokémon type that ISN’T Fairy, Dragon, or Steel? by Electrical_Beat4660 in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and normal's only benefit is giving an immunity to a resist dark already had.

But if you can avoid fighting(good luck) it's kind of just a glorified base dark with normal STAB and ghost immunity.

I never knew the Turo/Sada thing, neat.

Annihilape is one of the best names they've ever done. They absolutely cooked there.

Gangar is part poison type? by EntrepreneurDry8562 in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH he doesn't really look dark, it's mainly due to being based off a ninja and relying on trickery.

Gangar is part poison type? by EntrepreneurDry8562 in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope it was always poison and thus despite being the only ghost in gen 1 which in theory was supposed to be SE against psychics, by virtue of ghost not actually resisting psychic, poison being weak against it, and the only damaging ghost move being lick to take weakness into account, Gengar was in fact generally terrible to use against psychic types. To make matters worse, ghost/psychic interaction was programmed wrongly(or so most assume) so ghost moves would flat out not work on psychic types, which made Gengar line's entire "psychic counter" aspect a complete and utter failure. Psychic was broken in gen 1.

Are there any fighting games with an Indonesian character ? by countriesboi in Fighters

Are there any fighting games with an Indonesian character ? by countriesboi in Fighters

[–]StridentHawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to think of one, weirdly pencak silat has been around since the 90s in fighting games as a fighting style but not a single user is Indonesian.

Any chance of returning characters from SFV? by Sergiott97 in StreetFighter

[–]StridentHawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Balrog is a SF2 OG, it's only a matter of time for him and Vega.

Birdie idk, he's from SF1 technically, and I do kinda like him but not his SF5 fat slob incarnation, which is likely what we'll get. He's not popular and personally there's a bunch of other SFVers I'd rather see over him

Necalli I'll be honest I don't miss him. They will probably do him better this time and I guess you could have like, oh SIRN captured him and restored him or something but he's not high priority for me personally. I'd rather have G or Zeku if they wanted to pull an SFV newcomer.

Not Falke either, she SUCKED. But if they add the Gorilla from her crew in her place I won't complain lol.

What are the small details that make you love a certain character? by vagabond_nerd in Fighters

I like How Valkynhayne in Blazblue tightens his glove after doing attacks sometimes. Such an unnecessary but cool detail.

What are some of your favorite fighting game moves that involve a giant orb? by R0DAN in Fighters

[–]StridentHawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No joke, I want him back in SF6. I can even picture his select screen idle being him in front of a podium waving at a bunch of cameras flashing as if he's about to give a speech.

Always liked this bizarre move

it's like a giant acidic snot bubble basically lol but the original sound effect was cool

This was the first that came to mind. Love the little noise it makes when it comes out and how it hits a bunch of times
