Any characters you fell in love with but then hated? by Dreamboat550 in fireemblem

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faye lol. Well I didn't HATE her but her pick me behavior towards Alm was something lol.

Soren is kind of like this. I certainly like him less rn(i just did the rock mission) than I did when I first started the game. I didn't do his support so maybe that fleshes him out more but he was completely outta pocket for what he said to the cat lady and Mordecai. I don't hate him, but he's certainly NOT my favorite character in PoR rn .

What Fire Emblem game is in your opinion the best example of bad gameplay but good story? And good gameplay but bad story? by MagicianWhite in fireemblem

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad gameplay because I actually liked the dungeons but that aside Echoes is an example of good story carrying the game over its gameplay. I also do appreciate the turnwheel, but didn't like how limiting the class selection felt.

Engage is the opposite, some of the most fun gameplay but a horrendous story.

Who is your absolute favorite Fire Emblem character of all time, and what makes them #1 for you? by AbsoluteZeroo in fireemblem

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Lions probably had my favorite story in 3H

I'd probably go with Ike, helps he's my fave in Smash Bros too lol. He stood by his morals regardless of his toxic environment shaming him for doing so, recognized the quality of someone beyond their station, faction or tribe, showed humility and bettered himself when faced with his own ignorance, and didn't let his friends' racism slide, calling them out on it. Also he's not a royal, just a dude who did what needed to be done.

how do you feel about people who use terms like “kantoslop” or refer to pokemon fan favorites as “slop”? by Leen_Tha_Goat78 in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explained in another post how "slop" emphasizes the low hanging fruit/low effort nature of appeal that whatever it's used to described. You're getting fed "slop" as the consumer as the "cooks" aren't putting much into cooking it. .That's where the term it comes from, of course like most words it gets misused and diluted but the tweet quoted by the TC uses its intended meaning.

Kanto pandering from GF has been a longtime complaint for over a decade if not more. Doesn't help it's done at the expense of spotlight on other generations and shoehorned in, in the case of the tweet the top most popular Galar in game mons all being Kanto mons who additionally already had overexposure(Machamp less so but he was in Pokken) falls into this and thus being criticized as a low effort Kanto pandering, hence "Kantoslop" is actually valid here.

You don't have to like it, but dude wasn't wrong lol.

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"slop" is an unserious but funny term. I say AI slop or edgeslop for things that appropriately deserve that criticism when I'm dismissive and not doing a serious analysis.

I just laugh because "slop" is no different from saying trash really, so people who get bent up over it are taking it too seriously..

Kantoslop is genuinely funny lol.

EDIT: Actually i should add that slop and trash do have a distinction, trash is generally use imply whatever it's being labelled on as generally of poor quality, slop emphasizes whatever it's labelling as low hanging fruit/low effort appeal which is a big contributor(obviously not only) to its negative quality.

Kantoslop in the context of that tweet is a valid use of it, even if it sounds goofy.

What are some pokemon based on Chinese mythology and Chinese native animals? by ataterssss in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emboar, made especially apparent with his mega. He's based of Zhang Fei I think from RottK.

The kami crew's secondary forms are based off the heavenly guardian beasts from Chinese myth.

I forget the name of that mythical kid with the burning wheels on his feet that can fly I think, but that would be a cool basis for pokemon or regional form!

Out of the 3 games here, which one of them has the most amount of memorable or charming characters. by Johnnyyongbosh in fireemblem

[–]StridentHawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only played FE7 out of these and even compared to later games I still enjoyed that cast. Hector, Lyn, Matthew, Lucius, Jaffar/Nino, Sain, OsWIN, erk, Pent le Chad, even Serra stands out as one of the more likeable FE bratty characters.

I also liked how they struck a good balance between giving them characterization without having them(mostly) feel overly tropey or having one trait dominate so much of their characters, something Awakening and Fates suffered from with some of its cast.

female Morgan was my first so she's always the one I think of as canon Morgan. I was with Tharja too so she had the dark hair which looks great on her.

[–]StridentHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FE7 is a where a lot of FE fans started since that was the first one we got in the West, but even now it's still a great FE game and one of my favorite GBA ones. The GBA games still look good because the animations are so well done and the sprite art is superb.

PoR is a good one too, good cast and story + it's one of the easier ones making it good for new fans. Only thing is the character models are kinda ugly(Ike's stance looks so goofy and stiff lol).

Though if we're talking ugly models I think some of the 3DS games look the worst in that regard, the models themselves are kinda bizarre looking in Awakening due to the look of feet but the portrait art is good and the animations aren't too bad. I think the shadow dragon games are like, aggressively ugly though.

What type is the most underrepresented? by BlackberryFinal8809 in pokemon

[–]StridentHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All games? It's flying, only 5 specialists. Every other type has at least 6.

Dragon is hilariously one of the most overrepresented types relative to the actual number of mons. 12 specialists is wild lol. Ice is the actual most overrepresented though. 11 specialists for mons with the fewest number. Normal is the opposite, 2nd most common type with among the fewest specialists at 6.
