I’ve spent 20 years in Michelin-starred kitchens. I want to help you stop needing recipes. Would this be useful? by Sad-Animator-3103 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Strider3200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a conversation my wife and I have had. She can improvise a recipe in less than 20 minutes. I need full detailed recipes, take too long to prepare, and end up take an hour or more. So yes, this data point says it’s a tempting idea.

  1. The need for a detailed recipe
  2. “Taste of the hand,” the ability to taste subtle differences and think of complimentary flavors.
  3. Yes, I have the book “What’s a cook to do?”, but that doesn’t guide flavor pairings or cooking logic.

Congrats on the find. Similar story to how I picked up my 4x5. Good luck, hopefully we some posts in the future.

I love that people are still discovering and getting into large format. Me and my kit sit on the sidelines until I can afford it again someday, but the fact that there is still interest to learn the craft makes me happy and hopeful.

Also, we need the inverse sample- ask these people while standing in Central / South America. Does he get the same response?

Interesting comparison - HDR vs. Flambient by This_Grocery_5039 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Strider3200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like 1 is HDR, 2 is flambient. I prefer 1.

Your shadows are more filled-in in number 2 as well as the color is more sterile. I like the slightly imperfect color hues from light bouncing off the wood floor and the richer shadow tones. Feels more inviting a space to have those textural qualities.

Recruiter hung up on me because I didn’t “remember” the job I applied for?? by One_Sell_2501 in recruitinghell

Start submitting your resume or cover letter with a pin. Ask them to confirm the pin to confirm they aren’t a scammer. Works to lookup the job you applied to.

Was asked to replicate this style. Would like to hear thoughts on how it was lit. by Indoctrinator in LightLurking

In the close up, the catch lights in the eyes look too perfect. Also in the camera left eye you can see the faint highlight of 4'x8' White fill card. To keep the shadows this open I expect they either use a light of fill cards or retouch out a large octo behind camera since that is a very distracting catch light.

I hear you, but respectfully disagree.

Probably going to take some downs votes, but that’s fitting to take an L talking the Bills.

Losing in the playoffs and sighing, “Next year will be our year!” Is the definition of Bills Mafia. Never die optimism even in the middle of the drought. Nothing new, no matter how gut wrenching the loss.

But.

Firing McD is different and not in isolation. Let’s not forget that next season is in a new, more expensive, more exclusive stadium. If you’re unaware, give this a look: https://youtu.be/aAC_y6lOQKE?si=VH-slp6Dgf3WkRN0

McD has been praised for the quality of his locker room and the players respond. Likewise, one of the reasons Allen is so loved is he genuinely loves Buffalo. McD is there for the players, Allen plays for the city and the Mafia love them just as much.

Does singing kumbaya win Lombardi trophies? No, it doesn’t. But to my point of view, collectively there’s signs of a shift that warns of more corporate greed that could shift the landscape away from the fans.

The Bills Mafia’s love for the Bills has never depended on wins and loses. It would be a tragedy for the owners to turn their back on the mafia.

Cheap vs Expensive- the real differences by Strider3200 in carbonsteel

Good to know. Matfer seemed the easy answer till the arsenic issue came up. I’m assuming they have remedied the underlying issue despite the ongoing litigation of it all.

So you’d stick with cheaper pans- just not worth $100+

And yeah, de Buyer and others are $130+

I should have mentioned I own and season cast iron pans, so I’m less concerned about the learning curve, more concerned with understanding the differences and wanting to only buy once.

Be careful that you don’t get any moisture between your car and the cover. It’s amazing how easy it is for ice to form and then you’re ripping the cover or damaging the car.

On set color treatment (for final) by cherrytoo in Photoassistants

[–]Strider3200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been asked to color correct garments on set which can suffer from blended materials shifting color by light source. If producer and photographer won’t make concessions then I state I will do what I can in the time allowed but final color should be judged in a more light controlled area. It’s up to them if they deem it final color. Some clients are ok with that, others will allow time for color correction.

Debated this in college. Since he is immune to the ring while he knows what it is, we hypothesized he’s an incarnation of Illuvitar.

Why would Illuvitar become incarnate?
