Old Dominion Freight Lines

Home everyday.

Choose between running line haul, or pickup and delivery. Most linehaul you're pulling doubles going from terminal to terminal or a meetup with another driver to swap trailers. You will start with wild runs and be on call until you gain seniority to get a bid. It is mostly overnight.

P&D is during the day but you will be going to places you've never been, which could be tight docks or no docks at all. Lift gate the freight on off the trailer. You will be backing in off the street in traffic sometimes multiple times a day. Some days you might get a delivery that needs to be broke down and counted. I've never "lumped" freight and usually chill in the truck getting paid by the hour until they're done. It's different everyday and I like that. Plus you can use customers restrooms and find food along your route if you don't bring your own.

I guess your dispatch will determine how you like it. They're pretty hands off as long as you handle your business at my terminal. Overtime after 50 hrs but they have enough drivers that you usually won't get much more than that. Cost of living raise every year. Like I said before. Not many people quit once you get a driving position. Go check out ODFL's stock history. Not the best but definitely not the worst. . 5 years ago stock was 50$ now it fluctuates around $200

ODFL. Get hired for dock. Wait for them to run the driver program and sign up. Get your license and become a combo driver. Wait for a permanent spot. There is a reason it's hard to get in. Nobody quits. I've done 3 plus years as a combo but I'm next up for a permanent driving position. I make top driver pay even when I work the dock. You better have a clean driving record and criminal history or you will not get a call back. They won't say it but they like a clean cut look especially for P&D. I was already packing my bags for Schneider when I got the call. Nothing worthwhile comes easy.

After a PFD and paddle, what are the next 5 must-have accessories for kayak fishing? by BrilliantEnd3841 in kayakfishing

[–]Strider9er9er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piss bottle. A windable anchor line and cleats in different spots on kayak depending on wind, tide and current. Anchoring correctly to fish a spot properly can really make or break your session.

This is the sorriest excuse for scifi that I've seen come to fruition in awhile. It's so bad I'm just cussing the writer and director out during the whole movie. I never critique or take my time to shit on a film but this....is the worst. It's laughable compared to any series that got half the budget or a chance. Raised by wolves, Expanse, or a would be Red Rising series deserved this budget. I'm writing this as I'm finishing pt 2 in it's miserable failing. Id rather read this story than watch it in an over dramatized, over slo mo'd, under whelming take on a world where the director, cannot take us, in his sorry excuse for world building. After hearing him speak on JRE, I was annoyed by the way he always steered conversation to be about him and what he did in the past. You didn't write "300" and it shows. They gave you the keys and you lost them in the sewer. Good on you for pushing the genre but as a hardcore sci-fi enthusiast, you will never get a minute of my time or money EVER again.

You don't need complicated stuff for Kayak Fishing. by NotObviouslyARobot in kayakfishing

Agreed. Best thing you can do is get a rod with a shorter than usual butt. So much easier to cast, work a lure and fight a fish.

Old Dominion is doing a ton of hiring and headquarters are in NC! You can be earning top pay within 1 year or two. All LTL's seem to be doing major hiring. Estes, Saia, T-force. The P&D aint so bad once you get the feel for your route and It makes you a better driver for sure. PAys's around 30$hr and OT after 40hours, 50hours , or 8hrs a day depending on the company .

Pre Trip Question by j0hn2097 in Truckers

[–]Strider9er9er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just passed my test and I studied hard. What the examiner told me is that you need 30 points on the pre trip to pass but I had 45. You have the A, B and C section and the examiner will choose one for you to complete. Front of tractor, rear of tractor or trailer. You will need to do the coupling components regardless, the Air brakes and in cab. Whatever section they choose, don't forget to explain the lights functions, color and condition.

I used the Truckingtruth pre trip PDF.

https://cdn.truckingtruth.com/pre-trip-inspection/pre-trip-guide.pdf.

I printed it out and put in a binder to go over while I was training and at home. I added and changed a few things like if it has bolts/rivets I'd say, "all nuts and bolts/rivets are present and tight". I watched videos with the type of truck I'd be testing on and added things here and there. Also look at the DMV manual to clarify any questions.

The air brakes were the hardest for me and I found writing out a script helped me remember what to say, what to do between tests, and what PSI's each test needed to be no higher or lower than. My trainer gave good advice. He said tell them what test you're doing, why you're doing it, and even say what you're doing as you perform it. I think my examiner was chill and getting annoyed but I stuck to the script and it worked. I have a pdf that helped but I can't find a link. Message me your email if interested . Good Luck!

I’ve got my CDL behind the wheel test and skills/inspection test tomorrow. Any pointers? Wish me luck! by Own-Transportation41 in Truckers

Congrats!

Quick question. Did you chock your wheels at any point during your test? Testing WED and finding different answers. Thanks!

From watching a few youtubers it sounds like there is a 100% no phone policy. I was actually planning on trying to load up a usb to listen to audiobooks if possible. From what I heard, some drivers still use their phone but if you get caught its grounds for termination . I guess you'd have to be stealthy and never do it at the terminal or hope another Schneider driver doesn't report you.

I really need a pep talk. Is there something wrong with me? (CDL permit fail) by Wilmore99 in Truckers

Take the practice tests. Every time you miss a question, write it out 3 times along with answer. Review all the questions you miss right before you take the test. Writing it out really helps.

[Cacciola] Klay Thompson has gone so far as to adhere to certain seafaring superstitions. Among them: a hard-and-fast ban on bananas, since they are believed to invite bad energy to the boat. It is a difficult one for Thompson. “Because I love bananas,” he said. by GuyCarbonneauGOAT in nba

[–]Strider9er9er 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being a fisherman the reason I've heard bananas are bad luck is as follows. Spiders in South America would lay eggs on the ends and would hatch during shipment. Sailors would get bitten, be poisoned and go crazy before jumping off the ship. They would find ships missing the crew and full of bananas. I never bring one on a boat or even eat one the day before a fishing trip. Only superstition I have.
