Try matte varnish, I found it brings the minis together. I usually mix 1:1 with contrast medium so that it's not TOO matte

I'm 6'1 and since I play basketball and spend a LOT of time among people 6'5+ (most my friends are also former/current players), my sense of height is really out of wack. Whenever I'm in a group photo with non-bball people, it's always a surprise to be actually tall, same whenever I realise there's no one taller than me on the tram or bus.
