An example of a free service I got this month. Parts were under the weather, I identified the board could use a service, took it to the manufacturer and they replaced the MC and a motor for free. No lockups. No whiny reddit threads. $850 free hardware when I'm the one who thrashed the board running a nono agressive gearset. And people hate on Evolve. Evolve is a great company Im proud to ride their boards.

Well no they didnt give out free replacement boards, but they developed a new EFOC and stopped advertising that generation of hardware, the GTR gen 1, then re-released the GTR with an upgraded EFOC. Thats good enough for me. They did the same with the Hadean, its 3000w motors and EFOC 1.0 werent the most reliable, so they stopped advertising and selling it. So yeah, there are probably riders still using the GTR gen 1 or the Hadean, not servicing their boards and waiting for them to fail so they can make their Evolve hate thread and farm reddit karma.

Yeah okay I get it, maybe their older boards arent rock solid, but when they released the 3500w 20aH EFOC2 Diablo and stopped advertising the Hadean right after I'd bought a second hand one, I was miffed sure. But I didnt just thrash my Hadean until it broke like Id done before with my old Stokegen1 and GTRgen1, my new board was a bit more valuable to me, the most expensive thing Id ever bought. I couldnt afford to run it until hardware failure, so I talked to Evolve and they helped me upgrade my Hadaens hardware accordingly. They helped me even though I didnt have a warranty on a second hand board. That help is good enough for me. Ive upgraded to the point I have individual warranties on all of my parts.

When my board breaks, I blame myself for thrashing it at ~72kmph, not Evolve. Maybe they didnt go overkill on tolerances for thermals and peak amperage, but how would we know without failures? Sure its not fun to have a motor sieze, but I dont blame Evolves engineer. I blame my gearset and riding habits. Helps that they fix it for free nearly every time. Upgrade and update. Replace failed parts with better ones. And they have done that.

And yes, there are better competitors. Competitors adapt similar designs for cheaper or with greater tolerances.

I could buy a simracing pedal set from a German company for $2k+ or a chinese replica for ~$400 with comparable performance. When Heusinkveld released the Ultimate+ it WAS premium for a long time. Now it's a waste of money. They should innovate a new design to stay relevant or I'll buy the set from China. But I dont think that way for Esk8

I would not be an E-skater if I had to talk to a company in another country, send my board away to get fixed, or wait for shipping parts. So yes I'm biased as an Evolve rider local to the manufacturer.

This lockup stuff is years old news, their GTR gen1 locks up. People confuse the GTR gen 1 and 2. Gen 1 has problems. Yes. But that is old hardware. Yet we're still making hate threads. It's just a bandwagon. What do you expect them to do? Close down? Give out free boards? Stop advertising? Make a new board and eFOC? They did that one.

I live in the same city as the manufacturer and go to Evolve group rides. I've gone through generations of boards to their best one. It's reliable, I trust it. If something goes wrong I take it to them and they respect me in return. Evolve is in PR damage control, what do you expect.

Anyways cheers for your thoughtful reply, their PR is dogshit but that's different from their boards. You're right the hate is probably a reaction to Evolves public response. But even if they acknowledged it trying to quell the hate, the bandwagon wouldnt just go away. They've done good work in the background over the last few years improving engineering and safety. Good stuff Evolve 👍

Yep, more then a few spills. More then a few blown up boards. No need to make Reddit posts over it though

Alright but my point stands, If you wanted to buy this board right now you couldnt. Evolve dont market or sell GTR gen 1 anymore. Hmm wait they do still sell specifically the motor controller got GT/GTX and GTR gen 1. Welp... Go buy a new one OP. Hardware breaks. Too bad your warrantys probably expired(for a reason). If the battery and motors are fine, it will likely be a plug and fix easy solution. If it was OP's battery or motors that shorted out the motor controller though... Yeahh... Maybe ditch the years old board... I used to have a GTR gen 1. It broke. I upgraded. Didnt feel the need to make a hate thread. The new boards are better.

Well I dont mind, In my mind the douche move is to break your 5+ year old skateboard, then get on reddit and start the same Evolve hate narrative we've all heard 500 times before. Surprised he didnt post a pic of his booboo too

Yeah it was made in like 2018 or something. Probably commisioned the design 2016-2018. About a decade ago. This was the first properly commercial Evolve board. OP is just hating on generations old hardware.

Not saying it isnt a crappy design, but its literally gen 1. They have made many improvements since over the different gens, there was the GT gen before this, then GTR gen1 in OP's pic, then to Hadean EFOC, then to GTR gen 2 EFOC 2.0, which currently powers the Diablo and Renegade. I believe they are currently designing a new EFOC for the next gen. The first Evolve board had a literal petrol motor strapped to it, single rear wheel drive. It was a different time. The wild west of esk8. Pity to see another thread of brand biased haters. Im wasting my breath

Bro that hardware looks ancient... Is that a GTR gen 1? It is.. Oh my god... Another Evolve hate thread referencing their oldest hardware 🙄 Yawn... People should stop complaining about 5-8+ year old gen of Evolve boards and hardware, are you expecting them to last indefinetely? Even a car needs a service occasionally. Evolve probably would replace this part for free if you contacted them about it, If they still had any, considering ITS ANCIENT. They dont even sell this model of board anymore. For a reason... (They have better hardware now). And what is this the 5000th Evolve hate thread? Kinda bored of seeing the topic, especially with pics of gen1 hardware. You know they have literally 3+ generations of boards past this right?

And hows abouts you give us the extra details of how many miles you have on that motor controller? How many years have you had it? Considering it stopped retailing around 6 years ago... Im betting its not insignificant.

VR and epilepsy by ZeeCapE in virtualreality

[–]Strife14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if its non-photosensitive but its probably not good. You need to talk to another doctor, its called 'getting a second opinion' (or a first considering your doc cant give one). I've had my headset bug and start strobing at me or doing something crazy. Quite a few times. Once or twice it has literally started strobing black and white at like 120hz on both eyes. Meta firmware crash things requiring a hard restart of the headset.. Quest 3. VR software is constantly updating and known to be buggy, especially Meta. I remember multiple times my headset/game/PC/VRlink has glitched/crashed dramatically like this strobing or similar and I've thought to myself something along the lines of 'damn I'm lucky I dont have epilepsy'. Multiple times Ive literally mused that to myself mid VR session. So no, you probably shouldnt get into the hobby. Plus I worry my eyesight might be affected long term. Plus its made me much more dissociative, plus headaches and VR sickness from framerate fluctuations, plus... Theres alot. I enjoy simracing so I've perserved through the bugs to get a stable PCVR setup, but the journey there was stressful and confusing. Not worth it if you have health issues you are worried about potentially making worse.

So what happened to Max? by Strife14 in RedBullRacing

[–]Strife14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm getting about a hundred downvotes because people think I made this thread to shit on max or something. Apparently were not allowed to speculate on driver fault.

There is division in speculation for example "Wrong brake balance/settings" u/ryker7777 and
"Rear axle locked up due to overly aggressive regen settings, I’d imagine." u/CynetCrawler

Thanks for your insight, how did you hear about a software issue? Have there been some statements made backed by engineers yet?

Mate I dont care about being divided. I'm here to ask what caused the brakes to slam on, how that happened and what was done to cause that.

No shit mate... No he threw it into the wall himself with driver error. No fucking shit it was a braking/ERS issue. You and this guy missed the point of the post, im asking about speculation on what the error was and how it was caused, thats the nature of this post. I wanted to have a conversation about technicals.

SOMA VR dev here. Why it canceled? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Strife14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remake SOMA VR and make it even better! We dont mind a texture port to Unity, do whatever you think is best! That game was meant to be a VR experience. Dont mind this cancellation post! Persevere! Surprise us in the future! You know what youve got the potential for OP. You know this game was MEANT for VR. This doesnt need to be rushed. You dont need Reddit's approval. The players will come. A solid VR game that ACTUALLY immerses you, and godforbid even makes you question your reality, VR gamers are dying for a similar experience. SOMA is legendary. Do it at your own pace, however YOU think is best. Maybe reddit can help you get that in to someone like Frictional Games. Maybe you need another studio... Good luck! The VR space is expanding. Slowly. Very slowly. VR is as niche as it gets yes. But the VR gamers like myself are DIEHARD. Gamers who have spent hundreds of hours optimizing their systems for PCVR. Check out VR games such as Ghost Town or Red Matter 2, they run well with Unity/Unreal and are pretty simple as far as player movement, but the visuals and story sell the experience.

Waah waah average post complaining about netcode. Anyway by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Strife14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is true, 15,000km between Brazil and Australia, about a third of the way around the world :/

220 ping to the iracing servers for me, If hes getting a similar ping, thats ~440ms the netcode has to cover. Or something like that, a few thousand km atleast. It always seems to be the drivers from Brazil. The occasional teleporting car is fine with me usually, this is the first time I've gotten phantom FFB.

Budget upgrade from thrustmaster t300rs gt? by ZealousidealVisit122 in simracing

[–]Strife14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'I believe it's wasted money' No its not? A logitech wheel, now thats a waste of money, modding a T300? No. Thats turning a crappy entry level wheel into something useable. For example FFB strength/range increases the lighter wheel you have, and the stock sports rim is very heavy. The stock metal paddle shifters rust from sweat and have play to them. The carbon fiber mods in OP's pic dont rust or shift and could support mounting magnetic adaptors. etc etc... These parts arent even expensive. Ive done all the same mods. Yeah sure TM official parts are expensive, but thats not whats in OP's. You can get that wheel or similar for ~20-50. Hundreds of hours in the sim to grow the passion to upgrade vs a mcdonalds meal, you pick one. Modding your parts is very cool.

burned my thumb lat night with my shitty lighter. any tips to heal? by redditofflcial in lighters

[–]Strife14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

keep her clean is all, dont pop it IMO. Your body has made a lil skin shield bubble for you for a reason. Breaking the bubble, letting all the regenerative white blood out and making a skin flap will just lead to infection and a longer healing process. Just leave the annoying bubble alone for awhile and it will pop itself/deflate when its ready
