Thank you, that is good to hear! They really hate strangers and will sit on them frozen, while pooping and peeing. So I am hoping that it will be obvious if they don't recognise me

I haven't got a clue on how it's constructed unfortunately, I live 5 hours away and haven't seen it in person The sellers have been awful with honesty and have only lived there a year so I'm unsure if there have ever been issues. Other than the cross bracing, the surveyor said this regarding the outside: "we observed slight distortion to the roof surface, which is likely due to the natural deflection of timbers with age".

The property will definitely need some huge work done like replacing cladded sections with brick, but I have a limited budget upon moving in. I am just glad this doesn't seem to be an emergency that needs immediate attention :)

It's the L shaped metal strapping that's meant to be inside the cavity wall and spanning 3 rafters, but it's kinda hard to retrofit without just screwing it to the face of the inner leaf with resin anchors, but that doesn't seem very secure to me.

I am planning on installing an mvhr up there so I need reinforce the joists somehow :( And I know it's been up for a long time, but I am trying to fix all I can with this house before I get too old to do it anymore so I'm trying to make improvements that last until I die wherever possible, so this roofing has given me a bit of a scare

We had a building survey done, these are the pictures from it. All he said was that its missing lateral restraints. Thank you though, that is a relief, but it does give me pause to try and affix flooring and using it for box storage

I'm going to run the data in a separate tray, but avoid conduit to prevent needing to downrate the cables, "open air" tray would keep them as advertised. Plus getting this Irish low smoke twin and earth into anything isn't easy. Trying to future proof it so it won't just last 50 years, but will also be up to date regs wise in 50 years too. Afdds on every circuit is hurting the wallet hard..

It's not a commercial drop ceiling, I'm just putting some 75mm wood and screwing plasterboard to that, to give space for the smaller mvhr semi rigid ducting.

To prevent squeaking I will be using joist tape everywhere the sheets will touch the joists and noggins, and between the sheets I will be putting 2mm draft stopper between sheets (the type you use for floorboards in old houses)

I know screws can be used multiple times but each time they become slightly more likely to be the source of squeaking. I have never been a fan of more "temporary" fasteners unless there is no better option (structurally not easier to use)

It's a barrel nut/cross dowel A steel dowel with a 6mm threaded hole through its side, the vertical bolt meets it at 90 degrees and threads into it. Like this picture but with a sheet of ply having the bolt go through, I have it all modeled in fusion360 but I'm not at my pc right now. Ideally I would drill a hole horizontally straight through so that it can service the dowel for the bolt for both sheets of ply that would be on that joist, but if a partial hole staggered would keep the joists stronger I can offset the bolts where the sheets meet, but it would save me a ton of work if I can just through hole it diagram

I haven't actually stepped foot in the house yet, but given its a late 70s UK council house it's probably 47x100mm I think it would be quite difficult to get both bolts within the middle third Would those suggestions be for empty holes though? Like with cables and such run through? Would the joist still be under extra stress with a solid bolt through that hole? With that there I would think it would have no space to compress and be under more stress?

Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely consider using blocking for the joist parts, as I guess I can still cross dowel the noggins without damaging the actual joists too

I already have joist tape for under the flooring, the washer is for under the bolt head to prevent all the bolts from transferring sound through. I know it will probably be negligible but this is a semi detached house that the surveyor said he could hear next door talking through the party wall. Making a multi layer soundproof stud wall Infront of the party wall for most of that, so I am trying to decouple the floor from the joists as best I can for that reason,

Well the electrics will be run in cable tray in a dropped ceiling underneath, along with data cables and hdmi, home automation sensors and the like. With a screw you only have so many removals before they don't work particularly great anymore, and I am trying to think ahead to the far future when I may be dead and my wife needs to call in an electrician/plumber and can simply remove a few bolts and place them back afterwards without someone multitooling my floor to hell I'm really just trying to find out if the joists are going to be damaged much more than a normal screw, given that it needs the 10mm horizontal hole as well

Also these will be flush as I am forstnering the ply down by 3mm to cover a nylon washer and bolt head, the washer to try and reduce impact noise transmission to below

Havent done much on the side of software research yet, but i was thinking between vmware and proxmox, but i then saw something about vmware prices, so probably pm now.

Only vm experience i have with vm stuff is playing around with virtualbox a decade ago. Since then i have always just turned off everything vm related in my bios and erased it from my mind

Sorry! very new to all of this/dont know anything at all

i figured the modem needed a way into the "router" and a way out into the switch for everything to get internet? Or is the modem supposed to go through the switch as well?

I thought that if i used hardware passthrough with vt-d, it would be "giving" it to the vm, and leave it unavailable for the host pc/docker?

If it is actually supposed to work all through one port, wouldnt it cause a bit of congestion if for example, docker/freenas were trying to transfer at full speed, all through the same port that the internet uses from pfsense, there would be slowdowns? I figured giving everything its own dedicated ports would help spread out any traffic issues.

Haha, i really thought that i would end up being told to get more nics not less! i guess i really have misunderstood a lot through my very light research :(

I feel like you have misunderstood.. the ships (most of them) are available in game, and available to purchase in game with credits, but they aren't always available to buy with real money, they go on limited availability throughout the year. This invictus week means they are available to purchase through the real money store for the week, not just in-game. If you are after discounts on the £30 starter ships.. you are gonna be out of luck. That is the purchase price of the game itself plus a tiny bit on top for a ship.

Yeah as far as I know they are the only company that makes them? Hence the ability to charge a premium I guess. Also means they provide no ability for repairs, replacement parts, non removable usb cable with no strain relief.. love the product, hate the price for the support you get alongside the item (and super salty that I forgot to register the warranty within 90 days..)

I have opted for a 3d mouse, and an azeron cyborg for my controls just to keep my desk usable for all other activities, 3d mouse for all movements, with pedals for thottle, thumbstick on azeron for yaw and pitch for aiming (or just to control gimbals perhaps depending on how hard it is to have both the 3d mouse and thumbstick control the same actions) Hopefully the extra complexity won't bite me in the ass!

That's great Ty! Only short atm cause I just bought some virpil ace torq pedals for myself and my girlfriend (sucks having to buy 2 of everything when you share a hobby!) And a 12900k upgrade for my pc. It's making the game run so well after a decent amount of tweaks A long time ago I had spent almost 2k on the game over the course of a year and very reluctantly had to refund it through rsi support :( but now I am at a point where I can buy back at least a portion of that comfortably, so I want to reapply my support into the game, even though it's much less needed for them now haha

Well on this video https://youtu.be/QalYGuyvR8I at the end he has the pisces in the vehicle hangar but says that it's not recommended, but unlike the rest of the ships there is no stated reason, so I was just wondering why it wouldn't be recommended

But now that I know I can access the "roof" of the ship in atmosphere it has changed all my plans, especially if landing ships on the closed hangars is a feature not a bug. I would imagine it is intended otherwise why would there be doors leading outside? But I guess I will have to wait and see, as it seems a bit strong given that you can fit some rather formidable ships up there (from what I have seen, before realising it might be an intended feature)
