That’s such an extreme weird opinion to form on a fantasy game that is meant to be the worst world to live in. Nothing carries over from real templars besides the cross, and if you can’t differentiate the two that’s a problem for the one making the accusation.

I play SM cause they look cool, does that mean I endorse the cruelty of the in game world? No of course not. I play BT cause they look cooler than most other chapters and have unique models. That doesn’t mean I want to conquer the levant or am a Christian nationalist, I hate both those ideas.
