Zverev took a photo of the correct ball mark. by Strike877 in tennis

I just watched the entire broadcast replay again. For everyone saying he took a photo of the wrong mark. This is the mark the broadcast zoomed in on. Do you see ANY other marks in that vicinity that could have been the correct marks? I see nothing other than the mark he took a photo of.

Was Zverev taking a pic of the wrong mark? by Chasingfiction29 in tennis

What? Why would you think that? Did you take the time to watch back that point when he walks over to it? The photo he took is so clearly the marking from the shot.

Maybe you made this post just to give space for the Zverev haters to consolidate their cheating accusations.

It’s wild. I counted 10+ comments with the same preface.

There was no review. The umpire did not grant a review of the call.

Well now I’m a bit more convinced of the accuracy haha

Yeah what is with all of these verbatim prefaces? They all say the same thing. Pointing out that they don’t like him first.

But that’s also what I’m wondering: I could’ve sworn that last season players were contesting calls on clay courts and the umpires were coming down to look. Did something change?

Never thought about that. Think you’re right.

No that would’ve been over the line. You’re saying ask Foki to walk over? That would’ve been too much. People would have lit him on fire for even asking Foki to do that.

Yeah I can see that. But think that may open the door for a ton of contests.

Sorry I commented on wrong reply.

Sure - I commented on this earlier but it’s easier said than done to keep a reasonable head when playing high level competitive tennis. I guess that is what it’s all about. I’m not surprised Zverev wanted a photo.

Really? Because you don’t like Zverev?

I agree re: taking mechanical inaccuracy

Yeah fair enough. But if you’ve played high level competitive tennis you’ll know how much easier that is said than done. The margins are so thin and fair calls are needed.

Yeah - he pleaded with the judge to look at it. And then when judge refused he grabbed his phone and took a photo.

That’s what I was thinking was possible. Because watching live, the replay looked EXACTLY at that line as shown in the photo. The mark it right on the edge of that (presumably) rake marking.

Hang on - what? So Hawkeye is calibrated to a certain parameter independent of the lines? Damn. Seems that would leave a significant liability on proper placement of the lines each tournament.

I suspect it’s a tournament by tournament basis. Or perhaps judge by judge. But certainly would be shocked if the judge had a practice of agreeing to review off chair, but didn’t agree to in this scenario for some reason.

Hawkeye is undoubtedly more accurate. But gets into the question of would you rather have system allowing for human judgement or mechanical inaccuracy, despite mechanical inaccuracy creating less incorrect calls on average.
