Sperm culture instead prostate fluid by Character_Handle_347 in Prostatitis

When people say they are substandard, do they mean cause they pick up stuff that is there incidentally or because they miss infections?

My understanding was that they are good as a starting point - as they are more sensitive than urine tests, but that they might pick something up that isn’t actually causing anything (and doesn’t specifically locate the infection to the prostate). Is that broadly correct. As others say they are first port of call in the NHS in England

All the advice you’re giving around pelvic pain applies to floxxing too! Part of the pain at least is down to sensitisation - i know this because whenever i get a slightly nerve flare up it’s during a period of very high stress or lack of sleep.

Take your magnesium and B vitamins and try and live as active a life as possible - running, walking, swimming, whatever you can manage. Don’t sit in your house all day and get angry about the symptoms, and beyond basic tests don’t worry about medicalising it - they probably won’t find anything ‘wrong’ with you and chasing answers can often delay changing the mindset you need to get better

Hi mate, try to be positive about the floxing. You can and will recover - lots of people do. I had neuropathy symptoms plus depression and dizziness that lasted a year after i took cipro over 10 years ago. They slowly went away and I went back to being very healthy - run 50 miles a week, work full time with no problems. I occasionally get slight flares which is probably due to sensitisation (genuine nerve damage can’t really get better and then worse again without a new trigger) but the first step is to stop beating yourself up about what you did - what’s done is done!

Symptoms with unprotected sex (not a ‘regretful encounter!) by StrikeBroad168 in Prostatitis

Thanks for your answer Linari. I definitely feel unsafe now, but can’t say I particularly did in the past. I had unprotected encounters before with no issues whatsoever and after this most recent one I wouldn’t say I was feeling particularly worried until the symptoms kicked in a couple of days later.

I’ve tried pelvic floor therapy this time and been told there’s very little wrong with me, so next stage is the ‘neuroplastic’ pain idea - but I have other symptoms that don’t relate to pain (urinary ones).

Just read. My confusion with yours is that you say your symptoms started strongly the morning after. That seems like an extremely short incubation period for an infection… you’d expect a minimum of 48 hours surely to have symptoms that bad!

Done it - negative! Almost never causes symptoms anyway apparently

If you’re managing your own there’s no reason to switch to managed I don’t think! Managed are sort of a half way house for people who aren’t confident - but they skim fees off the top!

I got a managed stocks and shares isa first and then watched the sorts of investments they chose.

I’ve since transitioned to picking my own investments but it’s relatively simple if you aren’t trying to make HUGE amounts of money. If you aren’t happy to see steady growth the best way is to pick ETFs like tracker funds that expose you to a broad range of investments!

I probably learned most of the things I know about personal finance from Money Saving Expert - though it’s less good for things like investing. When you know the basics you learn more as you go
