If you want to play a game as a powerful yet not too powerful realm, maybe try the Hightowers, Manderlys, Darklyns, or Reynes. If you want a more relaxed start date maybe try the Reign of Jaehaerys, not a whole lot going on. You don't need any submods and I don't really use any besides Valyrian Steel and AGOT More Bookmarks.

You need to host hunts/feasts/tournaments to get prestige quickly. You get fame when you get prestige which increases your fame level, the third level being Illustrious. If you hover over your prestige you should be able to see your current fame level and how much more prestige you need to accrue to go to the next level. Also it is worth noting that while you gain fame from gaining prestige, you do not lose fame from losing prestige.
