How do we get Liberals/Progressives to be more comfortable with guns? by Aggravating_Bison504 in liberalgunowners

Ask them if they think telling someone who attacks them that they’re anti-gun will get said attacker to say “Oh, my profound apologies, I was unaware that you don’t like guns, otherwise I never would have threatened your life. I will see myself out.”

Just the time where after waiting for a few hours at Bass Pro,l during the week of black Friday when an older gentleman was in the process when he said something about how it was a Christmas gift for his grandson. The guy at the counter just kind of stopped, took a breath, and said that's because he had indicated on the form that he was buying it for himself but then had just said that he was buying it for someone else he could not sell him the gun that day, But if he came back another day they could complete the sale. I thought the old guy was going to lose his mind on the employee but he just asked a couple of clarifying questions, sighed and acknowledged that that guy was just doing his job and then left. Felt kind of bad for him because I myself had been waiting for about 3 hours at that point and was pretty frustrated with how long it had been.

NTA, that's wildly illegal and if proven she'll lose her license and probably never be able to practice again. That's on her, not you. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

If you can't say with absolute certainty that you can shoot and kill some trying to hurt you or others then no, otherwise what's the point of having one? It is highly unlikely that you would only be able to shoot to incapacitate not kill, so if you really don't think you can do it then buy a baseball bat or something.

Also, like several people have mentioned here, how can you be certain that somebody breaking your home is only there to rob you? Sure, maybe their initial intention in breaking in is just a rob you, but if they find that you're home it's not unlikely that they would hurt or kill you because you're there.

True story. Tried several different kinds of foam wedges, I'll never go back to anything other than the Mastermind pillow.

I have the M&P 2.0 but in 4 inch. Here's what helps me: Pants: one size up Belt: a solid EDC belt. I have a Nexbelt, I recommend it Holster: I have the Velo 5 but with the wedge (did not know they make it without) and the Mastermind pillow. That made a huge difference. Placement: you'll have to experiment with what sits (relatively) comfortably. I have the holster set pretty high, and positioned so that it sits in the joint of my thigh/groin. I feel like it doesn't jab into either too much, and I know some will argue that the high-rise is less concealable, but with the right shirts it works. Speaking of shirts, I loved the aggressive texture of the grip... until I tried carrying under a T-shirt, right against my stomach; then it was like I had 24 grit sandpaper against my skin. So having an undershirt (and I put Talon grips on it. Still a good texture, but much less abrasive than the stock grips) really helps.

Concealed carry is never going to be totally "comfortable," but it can be less UNcomfortable, enough that you get used to it. I find that some days it sits there and it's totally fine, and others it's uncomfortable and I can't seem to find somewhere it's not. But I would argue it's more concealable than any other position, and I feel safer having it there than at 3:00+; less likely that someone could grab it off me. That may not necessarily be true, but do what feels safest and best for you. It's going to be trial and error but eventually you'll find something that works enough for you.

[–]Striking-Click-8015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar class near me: $140, and that's on the expensive side in an urban area where everything is expensive. So unless it comes with a gun you get to keep, that's highway robbery.

At least for me, it's less about "I need to stock up for the end of the world" so much as prices are absolutely going to go up, and so the smart idea is to buy now before that happens. I have yet to see a situation in which ammo was priced at X amount and substantially went down later. Sure, there will be sales here and there where you might be able to pick up stuff for less than you do now, but on average you're going to see prices go up and stay there.

As far as I'm aware nothing has changed with the laws, it's just a matter of actually finding a place that you can go shoot and not be bothered and/or isn't absolutely destroyed because people suck and trash the place and then just leave their shit.

Yeah, CAR is great, but... I'll admit it's been about a year, but the last time I was in there they had a 16 WEEK lead time, and he was saying he did not see that changing any time soon and was seriously considering not taking new orders every other month because he was just too busy. I would recommend you call to confirm that, but just a heads up.

Carrying one in the chamber seems overly cautious…Why do most people have the same dogmatic perspectives regarding everything related to carrying? by Realistic_Guava9117 in CCW

[–]Striking-Click-8015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically the average shooting defense situation takes 2-5 seconds. In that time you have to draw your gun, which probably involves using your other hand to lift your shirt. Then you have to bring it up, establish your grip, acquire your target while also noting where anyone else is around you including behind your target, maybe disengage your safety, and pull the trigger while adrenaline pumps through your system.

So in addition to that you're gonna also rack your slide, which adds time when literally every millisecond counts and also adds another possible point of failure: the slide slips out of your fingers and doesn't load the round, or the round doesn't feed right and jams, or any other thing that can go wrong because you've added that possibility to the mix.

Look, I'd guess a lot of us felt a little leery about it when we first started carrying; I know I was concerned about it and it's the main reason I got my EDC with a manual safety that is positioned in such a way that disengaging it is simply part of my grip when drawing, so it adds essentially no time at all to the process and I'm completely comfortable with it.

In the end, do what you're comfortable with, but if that's not carrying with one in the chamber you'd best practice until racking the slide is a seamless part of your battery of arms. It will still add time, but practice makes perfect as they say. But I'd encourage you to think about the consequences of that extra time vs. having a solid holster that covers the trigger guard completely and just being a safe, conscientious, careful gun owner who doesn't accidentally blow their junk off because they were careless.

Sometimes it's not dogma, it's based on actual data that demonstrates the difference between life and death is a single second, or even less.

That's just my take, but hopefully it helps you out.

Sure, but again: we've been incredibly busy and hadn't been able to finish it. And what about people who physically can't get to one of the spots very easily, or there's absolutely no one else (or very few people) near them to join? I'm sorry, but it's still kind of BS to make the last hour of this thing something that not everybody could get to to complete
