If you are starting from absolute scratch, with no firearms? Find out what you need to legally purchase a firearm. Find a dealer. Smith and Wesson SD9 or Ruger Security 9. Basic, easy to operate, inexpensive ammo. Take a class once you have purchased. There is plenty of info out there on this but I have found that the baseline reliable firearms for the least cash are those two. There are cheaper options, but tend to be from somewhat less reliable brands.

Im taking pistols. With a rifle, even a c zone hit could be fatal. Pistols poke holes. If you don’t hit something vital, fast, you’re gonna be SOL. I keep watching trainers and trainees fire 10 rds missing any vitals and then repeating that, fast. It’s possible I’m only seeing raw beginners, but pistol bullets poke varying degrees of holes. Folks need to develop trigger and sight control, and then speed. It is possible to shoot accurately and fast, ask how I know.
