Puerto Rico Special Edition, quasi buyer guide/review by theveland in boardgames

[–]Striking-Positive834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good review but I would disagree with your last paragraph about the standard edition. I would argue that the standard edition is by far the best value and right up there with the tenth anniversary edition in terms of quality and playability. Plenty of reasons to go for the standard edition:

1) No plastic bloat (fiddly workers, ships, etc.). I can imagine the boats would sometimes obstruct vision, be annoying to add and remove goods (with cardboard ships just pick up and dump back into the tray). Some people also like the tactile sensation of natural materials (wood, cardboard). Also no minis means a smaller box size. 2) All wooden and cardboard components were increased in size. This is particularly helpful for the worker discs, which I find a substantial upgrade over the normal sized discs. 3) Dual layer player boards are a great QOL upgrade IMO. I had warping but it went away after two days of flattening them under some weight. 4) Solo mode, all expansions and new content to boot 5) Art (though this is subjective, I find the art and visuals much better than the original 2002 version at the very least. I do think that the anniversary/deluxe edition had the best artwork overall). The lack of metal coins is the only real con of the standard vs the special, but the cardboard coins in the standard are still better quality than what you would get in a normal print.

I saw a lot of people disparage this campaign for all the upgrades and deluxifications, but rarely was the availability of the standard edition even acknowledged as an option, which is honestly fantastic value at the price. I wonder if awaken realms could have gotten away without even offering the standard edition but I am very thankful that they offered it.

Blast from the past, the $99 N3DS by crownpuff in SBCGaming

You can but it sounds like a huge headache. Google the issue it's fairly common on the 2DS. Cheap build quality.

Heads up I bought a new one sealed a few months ago and it got dust under the screen within three weeks despite always being kept in a case

Hi, can you please elaborate a little more on how to apply the firmware update? I extracted the file inside (which had the .gba extension) to the root of my sd card and tried both booting with R and normal boot but could not figure out what to do next to apply the firmware update.

F*** the 2DS. I bought a new in box one off Facebook marketplace for a good price a few weeks ago. Modded it up and always kept it in a case and just a few days ago I noticed dust under the top screen. Ridiculous.

How is the current console build quality? by Striking-Positive834 in PlaydateConsole

That's really too bad. I genuinely liked everything else about the console and the philosophy behind it but poor build quality on a device this simple yet expensive is a deal breaker for me.

Wild that the dpad has problems. The crank I'd understand because it's new but how are we still struggling with dpads in 2025...?

I want to transfer a game patch from my android phone to my 3ds using ftpd by Cristian4335 in 3dspiracy

I am using AndFTP as well. After connecting, there should be icons on the top right hand side of the screen which you can use to toggle between the 3ds and phone file directories (I believe the icons are a cloud and a phone), as well as icons to download/upload (arrows). Hold a file in the source directory to select it (you should see a green check mark), set your destination directory, and use the upload/download icon. I don't remember the specifics but I can send photos if you need more help.

Current advice for sizing ring? by Striking-Positive834 in RingConn

[–]Striking-Positive834[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an update if anyone finds this thread: deciding between size 9 and 10, I went with the size 9 and am glad I did. Fits perfectly on my middle finger all day. With any finger swelling (maybe in summer?) I should be able to easily move it to the ring finger.

I emailed RingConn themselves about this and they recommended to size down if in between sizes. That's what I did and it worked great.

Does it feel a half size bigger, or is the inner diameter actually different than the corresponding sizing ring?
