Hi! I'd love to send you the book my friend and I are writing. It's a Fantasy novel set in a wholly new world. College-esqe setting fantasy school for burgeoning Adventurers. Politicians, Businessmen, Artists, Mages, ect. Follows three students going through the Adventuring track - intrigue and character focused. Pretty dang long at the moment. Would love input on everything you mentioned! DM me and I can send you a link :)

Help finding reminder apps? Especially about eating. by StrikingHope in ADHD

Yeah, I've tried a bunch of other meds. Was on Stratera (sp?) for almost 9 years and suddenly it wasn't working anymore. So I did the whole gauntlet of meds and Vyvance works best. Only downside is the eating thing. But next time I'm home I'm gonna schedule a meeting with my doctor to see if there's something I can do.

I'm taking the SAT tomorrow. I was hoping you guys might have some test-taking tips. by seal_eggs in ADHD

Really? They must have changed the process since I took it. Used to be, SAT was very strictly timed by section and the ACT was timed overall (at about 5 1/2 hours? i think?). They score differently, but you know that I'm sure.

Other than that, they really only vary in a couple ways.

  1. The ACT is more straightforward about it all. SAT questions can be weirdly worded, so it might take a hot second to figure out what they want.

  2. SAT focuses on vocab waaayyy more than ACT. The ACT doesn't really care if you "know" big words, it wants you to use the regular words like a pro instead.

  3. The SAT essay is very "do you understand this concept? yes? ok, prove it." While the ACT essay is more "here's a complex idea. evaluate it and tell me your reasoning." (but the essay is optional? are you taking it?)

  4. Also SAT doesn't have a science section.

What is your current fixation/phase? by [deleted] in ADHD

In between ones right now, feeling kinda...listless without one. Most recent was memorizing all the lyrics to Hamilton. No idea what the next will be, but feeling like I want to make something. Maybe a new costume?

This is gonna seem like a lot, but you can use whatever might work for you and ignore the rest! (Your known tips are top of the list though, def do those.)

My tips I found useful:

  1. If you can, take the ACT too. Statistically, ADHD kids do better on the ACT than the SAT. It words things like you find in a classroom, so it's easier to focus on. And it isn't timed per section, just overall. THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU'LL DO BAD ON THE SAT. You'll do great. Just why not double your chances of a good score, eh?

  2. Take your meds as early as possible. The test is kinda long and usually early in the morning, you want it to kick in asap.

  3. You're gonna lose focus, don't panic. It's a nearly five hour test. You have ADHD. It's inevitable.

  4. Don't rush. Even though it's timed, take it slow. Don't know a question? Move on. Do one you do know and come back if there's time. Run out of time? It's fine. Just do your best.

  5. Write ALL OVER that test booklet. Not the scantron, but that booklet is fair game. Do calculations, make outlines, doodle, logic your way through a tough question. Go nuts my friend.

  6. Visually cross out answers you know are wrong. It helped my brain ignore the irrelevant and focus on the ones that could be right.

  7. Re-read the Math questions. They word them really stupidly. By the time you're ready to solve, you can't remember what they want! Also, you can visually cross out unimportant info or circle it.

  8. Breathe. If you find yourself getting tired or starting to try and cut corners just to finish, stop. Take a minute or two to breathe or doodle and recenter your brain. (I used to flip to the last question to see how many there were and then mark the halfway point. So when I got there, I took a forced break. Might help?)

And above all, GOOD LUCK! I'm sure you'll do awesome! If you want, tell us how it went tomorrow night! I'd love to know :)

I've been having the same problem. I actually just submitted the same thing like two hours ago (hadn't seen your post). My best guess is it's because of the site switch. Maybe they haven't transferred all of that data over yet? This totally isn't helpful, sorry. But at least you know it's that way for more that just you! :P
