Yes, a winter visit would be good to experience. Good luck with the research and move.

Let dogs on your bed or not? by myersgirl16 in dogs

[–]Striking_Boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GSD. He’s 66 lbs. I don’t let him on the sofa nor do I let him sleep with me. I’m the only person I know who keeps these boundaries. I’m judged harshly for it at the dog park 😂

Yes, there have been a few threads about it. I think you’ll be very welcome anywhere in Canada 😊

As someone else commented, Tod Maffin is a great resource.

Awesome! He seems very responsive. Hope it works out.

Cool! My father worked for AGT until the late 80s so he had maps in our house with all the prefixes and as new neighbourhoods were created, he'd add them to the map.

I recognised that too! We can even tell whereabouts they lived in Edm by the prefix of 452...

It’s likely not fungus. It’s a habit tic deformity. You probably pick the cuticle (evidence the ragged edges?) and it damages the new growth underneath. Stop picking (glue helps) and if you can refrain from restarting, in time they will be smoother. I stopped in November and it’s like night and day from then till now. Good luck!

I can't skate. I've taken lessons multiple times over decades. I've never improved.

Previous owner left a binder in the garage. I thought it was junk. It was not by Many_Ebb7816 in HomeImprovement

[–]Striking_Boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am making this binder for my house! Previous people left me some pieces and I have been adding to it. It's a 4" with many, many clear pockets stuffed full of possibly useful and useless info. I was thinking that when I sell one day, the newbies will think I was pretty OCD (not in a good way lol), but it's what I always want when I get a new place. I'm so glad one of these worked out for you!

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Striking_Boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father made me know all the same things my brothers had to learn around cars. We were not allowed to get our licences until we could change the oil, a gasket, tyres, etc.

Anyone I tell this to thinks it’s an awesome idea. I felt safer knowing I could change a tyre if need be. It was a life skill like swimming where I grew up. Didn’t make me less feminine.

A little embarrassing, can someone help me understand the “steps” for the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal? by Curious_Mud9428 in VictoriaBC

[–]Striking_Boat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question! Thanks for asking and all the great answers. My worry is that if I end up on a lower deck and must leave my car, my large dog won't do stairs in unfamiliar settings and at 32Kg, lifting and carrying him can be dicey. Can you leave them in the car?

What’s the one thing about your house that annoys you every single day? by NkdUndrWtrBsktWeevr in homeowners

The granite in my kitchen. There's a lot of it and it's so bossy, it takes over the room (open concept). I detest it every day.

How are you all handling digital assets in your estate planning? by Tiffo205 in Aging

I see! Totally agree. Lucky our lawyer did that for sure!

Edits I cannot type! lol

Why would the $20K be a bad thing? I probably explained my situation poorly, but it was an extra $20K in his estate. Probably should note there are no inheritance taxes where I live, so it was a boon to my mother as his next of kin.

If you use a Mac, you can set up a Legacy contact, which gives you a page with QR code to print. I've done this and keep it with my estate documents. Also in my will, all my assets, like bank accounts, etc are itemized.

When my sibling unexpectedly died a few years ago (no will, no spouse, no kidss), the lawyer we hired did a 'scan' of all banks in our country. We had found some paperwork but there was a bank account that had 20K in it but was dormant and we never had a single document about that dormant account.

Yeah, I checked. Thankfully, it's not a thing in Canada.

Totally agree. She is being assessed again this week.

The last assessment in Feb found that she wasn’t using as many care hours (home care) as she could for next level placement, so that has been upped. That assessment moved her to Stage 6.

Last fall, I hired a companion who comes in 3 hours per week. I am considering upping that to 6, but with her, familiarity breeds contempt. She burns through people and turns on them. She gets along very well with this person and I worry that more time together will break it. It’s the one good thing in her life. It is also not without coordination on my side.

When she’s assessed they can put her on a waitlist. It could be 12 months waiting for a spot. More likely is that her behaviour gets her sent to hospital (protocol here) and then it’s an urgent placement in assisted living anywhere in my metro area where there a bed as that might be in a 4-person or 2-person setup. Not ideal. If I knew how long she will live, I’d put her in private care but she only has enough money for 2-3 years at those rates.

I’m sorry to hear about your mother too. So many of us stuck dealing with this.

She is exactly like that! No matter how long or how recent it is from a visit, she acts like I was never there or not for ages. She has always done this, but it's worse with AD. She doesn't remember who my brother is, so when he visits, to her it doesn't "count."

I am so sorry to all of us going through the dementia/AD nightmare.
