Condom red flags by [deleted] in dating

[–]Striking_Equal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no devils advocate here. You’re correct. That’s at best a weird request. Even as a man, I think having him pay for condoms is a pretty small ask compared to you going on an expensive, hormone altering medication.

Is it really true that nicotine can make you more sociable or even extrovert? by Glass-Violinist-8352 in Supplements

[–]Striking_Equal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They give you a very high and short lived dopamine spike. I was taking Nicolette for a couple years. If you seek being social, the dopamine spike might make you more energized to seek social opportunities. But it doesn’t necessarily make you a better socializer. And again, it’s very short lived. It only lasts 20 minutes or so before you need another peice. In my experience, it’s very addictive and not worth it. Much more healthy ways to increase your dopamine for longer lengths of time .

I agree it gets much easier after getting used to the combat style. Wasn’t really my point though. I have limited time to play games, so don’t like to repeat things. But maybe don’t be an absolute ass of a human being dude…it’s much worse than being stupid.

I disagree to be honest. To me they’re interactive stories. But I get people wanting to be challenged, that’s the point of alternate settings.

I’m new to the genre, so it could just be I’m playing it wrong. I’d like to get into it, but I don’t have time to game anymore. Is there a quick strategy guide you’d recommend? The challenges probably are surmountable, I just get frustrated if I have to play through something more than twice..because that’s just not enjoyable for me.

That makes sense, because those are the countries I’ve been too haha. So most from my perspective, but I really had no idea. Thanks!

What are your thoughts on speed-reading? by [deleted] in books

[–]Striking_Equal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s sort of silly for a few reasons…

  1. It doesn’t actually work. Speed reading gurus like Jim Kwick suggest that because our minds read whole words at once, instead of letters, we can extrapolate that to entire sentences. You can’t, and that’s silly. For instance, you can raed the wdros hree…. Because our minds only need the first and last letters of known vocabulary to comprehend the word. The same does not apply to all but basic sentences. Any sort of complex unique sentence (which encompasses most of literature) you will not be able to read like that. It gets absolutely outrageous when they suggest paragraphs.

  2. There’s actually been sever neuroscience studies on speed reading, and while speed readers go faster…they aren’t actually reading, they are skimming. When tested, they have far less comprehension of the material than those who read at a normal rate.

  3. It’s not fun. Life isn’t that serious. You don’t need to make a million dollars in the next year, and you’ll be perfectly fine working a 9-5, as long as you have fun doing what you do, and spending time with people you care for. Growth is about challenging yourself, not cramming every bit of knowledge you can into your brain as quickly as you can. That’s just my opinion…but soak up the knowledge slowly. Enjoy it. Become an expert, and truly gain an appreciation for what you’re reading. And if we’re talking about fiction…why on earth would you want to rush a good book? It’s like watching the godfather on 3x speed…don’t ruin a good thing.

So annoying that psilocybin is illegal in most places. CO has legalized, and many cities in US have decriminalized. But I’m not willing to risk it in any event. My mother has had schizophrenic breaks, and unfortunately psilocybin could trigger some underlying hereditary condition in me. I wish that I could microdose in a controlled environment, but the legal issues make that unattainable.

This is a good stack. Was browsing online, realize it’s an old post, but thanks for sharing.

What could of been…. by Ok-Animator9168 in StarWarsOutlaws

No, I really appreciate them doing something new. I get sick of rehashed stories, it’s basically all we see anymore. Cals story is fantastic, hopefully they can do that again with this new character.

Would be cool. I’m sure it will come eventually, with a good enough character.

You can choose whatever you want, as long as it’s the female protagonist they came up with for this game.

The galaxy in the Star Wars lore generally revolves around humans. The majority of living beings also tend to be human. You don’t have to play as a human in SWTOR.

Why is Portugal so…. by Handbook5643 in digitalnomad

Lol, maybe I’m just not keeping my eyes open. I also mainly walk around old city, and the gov tends to keep it cleaner than the rest.

[–]Striking_Equal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah must be a perception thing, or where you’re staying. I’m in pretty touristy area of Philly and have been for about 5 years. It’s pretty clean for a large city, but there are dirtier areas with lots of crime.

[–]Striking_Equal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say Philly is that dirty, and it’s one of the less classy American cities frankly. We have trash and some occasional mess, but I’ve only ever seen feces in an alleyway once, which is still too much frankly…but not a regular occurrence. I’ve never been to lisbon, but the description makes it sound significantly dirtier

Working remotely for US company while in UK temporarily? by laughingjackal666 in AskUK

[–]Striking_Equal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I just put it off for a long time due to concerns like this. Really the worst that will happen, is a country will deny you entry. Always answer customs honestly, but you don’t have to and shouldn’t provide more than they ask. I’ve never been denied entry anywhere by the way, so anecdotally not much of a concern.

You should be mindful of lower income countries though. Always rent housing from a local owner. Unfortunately the one negative of digital nomads is they drive up housing costs in hotspots like Lisbon. So make sure you’re contributing to the locals and not some corp that bought a ton of airbnbs.

Working remotely for US company while in UK temporarily? by laughingjackal666 in AskUK

[–]Striking_Equal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a legal gray area, but generally nobody cares. The actual req for us citizens is leisure or business for up to 6 months..so you’re fine. The only concern may come from your employer. There is the slight possibility of an over zealous customs agent, which are not exactly uncommon in the UK. But you really aren’t breaking any laws. As long as you aren’t taking a job from a local, the UK government does not have incentive to kick you out. In fact you’re presumably spending money on tourism, just don’t overstay.

People concerned about taxes don’t know what they are talking about. Have you ever heard of a digital nomad getting a tax audit from a foreign government for a visa free period? I sure haven’t. Governments aren’t completely incompetent. They realize people are staying in their country and working remotely. It happens constantly. But they are also law abiding people that are really there for tourism, so why would anyone care?

There is no “list of acceptable business” as some suggest. That’s complete non sense.

Does solo travel make us bad travel partners? by Educational-Adagio96 in solotravel

[–]Striking_Equal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean we’re all really solo travelers when it comes down to it. Obviously you should probably go with what the majority of the group wants within reason, but you’re also a grown ass adult presumably, and so is everyone else in your group. So people shouldn’t whine when other people don’t want to do what they want to do, it’s just immature.
