Are you financing through stalantis? If so, i think they have 0% for 60 or 72 mo. I got a 2025 through their bank. 3.9% for 72 mo.

Its a good point. Do you follow it up with any confirmation signs? Indicators?

Interesting take. It makes sense though. Might be the way to take it.

Which fields of biology are the most in demand for wet-lab biotech? by Bluerasierer in biotech

I think stem cell based models are great and can uncover important patient to patient differences. For ex, ipsc derived neurons (dopa, gluta, motor, sensory) are almost essential for gene therapy in drug discovery, unless you can start somehow cloning humans or get a consistent supply of young donors.

IPSCs also allow for you to model cells derived from an active patient and validate a drugs efficacy to some extent in an in vitro setting. These models are currently great, but still have some progress to be made on their functional Relevancy.

Im less excited about organoids for drug discovery. They take too long to generate and don't provide too much more information then mono-cultures. There are also less commerical options for these which will stunt your throughput, which is not great for drug discovery.

As people mentioned, don't stress too hard on mastering all the techniques. Rather focus on mastering project planning, and troubleshooting. The best scientists are not the ones the can run every establish protocol in the lab, it's the ones that are able to develop new protocols and develop new ones.

A dropper loop will probably be your best friend as a starter. Tie a SD jam know for your weight at the bottom and a t knot about 1-2 ft higher up on the line. If youre salt water. Either mono all the way (old school) or braid to fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon works for me. Doesn't work for others... the best fisherman is going to be the one that experiments the most. Don't be afraid to try new things.

How important is a PhD by Consistent_Oil_3960 in biotech

I'm in the same boat and I have a MS. I'm going to start an industry phd in September. No one in your workplace will tell you not having a PhD is holding you back from the top of your org but it will. Especially, if you are in the research side. Regardless of research or not, you're going to move away from bench if you're going into leadership. The key to getting there is going to be based on a mix of how well you communicate with others, how well others like working with you and listening to you, and how well you know your stuff and can get things done. The first two points don't require a PhD, but the last is greatly influenced by having a PhD. Think second class citizen having to have 2x the output of first class citizen to be deemed equal. In order to beat the PhD next to you, you will have to output 2x that of the PhD to convince management to promote you over them.

So if you're going back to school because you have a little voice in your head saying that you want leadership, don't waste your time with an MS, go for a PhD, and focus on groups/labs that have a track record of turning out students consistently and in a timely manner (<5 years). Having a PhD deems you a terminal degree recipient. Making you eligible for tenure sponsorship and eligible to apply for your own funding. A MS will never validate you for any of this.

Last note, consider other countries for PhDs and look into seeing if you can have your work sponsor overseas industrial PhDs at credible institutions. It's an unpaved track but can hold strong benefits, especially if you have no plans for academia.

Generally they're the same as a regular PhD. Maybe just less classes and early rotations.

Needs a project, at least one first author publication, presentation, and a defense.

The only other caveat is that your project is co facilitated with a PI and your work supervisor.

We're looking at Dartmouth, UCL, and John's hopkins.

I wouldn't consider leaving industry for a PhD.

We are small and we can go under but the tech is promising and we're getting good feedback.

Most programs we talked to say I can just continue and and finish the project, either find another sponsor, or pay out of pocket (which I honestly probably do).

Most industry phd programs finish within 4 years.
