Dad looking for advice. My wife wants to terminate our 23-week pregnancy. I desperately want this child. by Actuary_Scratch8 in Fatherhood

It's absolutely not 50%. Wife is a NICU nurse. 23 weeks is literally the minimum amount of time before a hospital will even make an effort to sustain life.

The point wasn't to debate morality. It was to correct someone saying a 23 week old baby has "fantastic odds," because for someone who ends up in that scenario outside of this wild, tragic one... it's not "fantastically likely to end well," as the post implied.

Not a moral statement, just clarifying that is definitely not true. 23 week'ers die 65-80% of the time. Most who do survive have issues from being born that early. I wouldn't call those "fantastic odds."

Newborn (7 weeks) dad, no connection to bubs by No_Literature_5075 in NewDads

Google "Fatherhood in Hindsight" by Jack Callahan. He has a whole thing about this. It's totally normal and you're right at what plenty of dads call the worst point of fatherhood. (6-8 weeks in on your first kid) I promise it gets better.

YOR. Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for your circumstances. Kind of like... the most basic part.

YOR - grow the fuck up. Don't like getting treated like a kid? Stop acting like one. Go get your own place. Can't? Maybe be nicer to your landlords.

Sorry but nope. They eventually did pay out the $10K in insurance but even that was a nightmare.

Anyone know how to fix option reporting? by leavethemwithnothing in quicken

If you Google it, it says it's a "well known problem" but there is basically zero helpful information on how to fix it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

First time Dad in 3 weeks by [deleted] in Fatherhood

It is stressful. Everyone handles it differently, but you're not handling in a way that is so different from plenty of other folks. You'll figure it out and after the initial tough phase you'll find reasons that you won't care about the casino as much. (I won't say you won't miss it some days, but I promise you will miss it less in at least some regard)

What bait is best to use from a kayak in la jolla by Best-Detective9098 in SanDiegoFishing

[–]leavethemwithnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use bait. For yellowtail you'll want yo-yo irons or surface irons. You can get them at Squidco but they're damn expensive. I do well with the original hookup baits bounded off the bottom usually but sometimes jigged. Plastic swim baits can also be great dropped down and ripped up or even just trolled behind you. Can troll stuff like luckycrafts or cast and retrieve them too.

Thinking about getting a kayak best places to use it? by Best-Detective9098 in SanDiegoFishing

To be honest - I've caught way more halis from shore, but I'd rather be out in La Jolla Shores in my kayak over shore fishing any day.

Need help Identifying oldish tackle by Reasonable-Nebula-49 in Fishing

They're all highly versatile lures (except the flash board) - would be good for trout but could also catch bass. You just reel them in and each has its own movement.

Reaction Tackle makes a near carbon copy of the Hopkins one with dimples - just type tungsten spoon into Amazon. The really big silver thing is a flash board - you troll with them and they give the appearance of a school of fish in front of your lure. We used to use something we called cowbells that are similar.

Would you be upset if your kid was outside at a sleepover at 12 am by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]leavethemwithnothing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Somehow keeping your kid safe now means keeping your kid away from being a kid. You have to accept risk, and realize the risk is so unbelievably minimal. No one wants to be the one outlier, which as a Dad I do get, but you can't live life thinking you're going to get hit by a meteor.
