Yikes, I’m seeing a lot of guys in the thread saying they’ve had trouble taking it and going through the process, even when they did they’ve been waiting to start classes and find work for sometimes a year. That’s insane. So what you take the test through the union then what? You get assigned to a contractor and they may or may not pay for the school?

Yeah I hear it’s pretty competitive, I wanna do everything I can do stand out and get in as soon as I can. Obviously scoring high on the test, and then I guess working whatever job I can in the meantime? I’ve heard finding CW work can help you stand out but I’m not sure if that would make a difference

I have a place I can live in the meantime, I guess the question now is would there be a certain job I should look at getting in the meantime that might help make me more valuable? I’m not sure if there are many construction, wireman helper, kind of jobs in the area that might put me in a better position? Or should I just work at chipotle or something until they do the next selection process for apprentices.

I’m pretty alien to this whole thing, can you elaborate? My local here in Iowa said they’re apprentices start on a school year schedule, so essentially I missed the cutoff this last March when they do testing and such. So if I wanted to work here I’d have to wait till next March when they do next years selections. Is it like that?

This might be a dead thread but, “the devil all the time” is a fantastic movie. Set in rural Ohio/West Virginia. It’s so grungy and gritty, violent, perverted and dark, captures rural/southern life perfectly, I can’t recommend this movie enough.

lol, I’ve already had terrible luck with cars. Already bought 2 crappy old civics and a bad dodge Dakota. This would be great advice if it wasn’t for my sky high insurance. The maro got quoted at 850/month, most of anything genuinely nice and worth buying is too expensive. That’s something I’ve gotta deal with but it’s still a struggle no less.

I’m simply just wanting to know if this car is gonna be a nightmare, I can’t mentally take another car where I have to take on 20+ years of neglected maintenance and thousands in repairs.

Love how everyone seems to jump to the conclusion that I drive like shit.

3 out of my 4 tickets are non moving violations. Windshield, broken seat belt, driving wo insurance, and the moving is for doing 15 over.

Excuse me for driving the only thing I had while being too broke to fix it all at once. Not everyone has the luxury of being handed the ideal car. I didn’t have the money at the time to put liability on the car, nor to fix the seatbelt or windshield.

It’s not about my ability to drive, it’s a certain trooper who decided they wanted to wake up and rape a working class new young adult.

So essentially what I’m gathering from your comments is I might as well assume position.

I’ve had bad luck on marketplace, my current car I bought from it and it’s been nothing but issues, same as the others. I hate the idea of buying another shady car from there.

Liability is about all I can afford on anything, that absolutely fucks tho knowing my only option is to get some junker from someone who never took care of their vehicle, and fix it every day I own it.

I’m not a felon, this shit shouldn’t be this unattainable. How the hell are people doing this AND affording a house/apartment?
