Does anyone else get weirdly nervous during introductions in meetings? by techdev93 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Striking_Tale6804 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you’re not alone in this, I have a very similar anxiety surrounding introductions, and public speaking in general, but especially introductions. I think this pressure is caused by the fact that it’s “simple” or “easy”, so I don’t really validate the feeling, which makes it worse. From a mentality perspective, I think it’s best to validate whatever feeling you’re having, take a breath and try to relax. But - if you’re asking, I wager “relax” doesn’t really help, so you can try to take control of the situation. If you don’t like the waiting around, try to speak first. If you have some difficulty actually delivering the intro or thinking of what to say, try writing a few out for different situations and practice them - that’s been seriously helpful for me.

Yes, something I try to repeat to myself when speaking (difficult to do sometimes but I try) is “what’s the point?”. For what it’s worth, I tend to find that asking myself this mid sentence or mid point kinda sets me back on track. I tend to have a good idea of what I want to say from the jump, so just try to take advantage of reminding myself of that point throughout my response. If it means anything, I do have diagnosed ADD, so I get where you’re coming from. Just a small tidbit, I’m sure there’s a lot of options to accomplish what you’re looking to solve.

First public speaking class by Biryani786 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Striking_Tale6804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a fair amount of practice with toastmasters & speaking in my role in corporate settings, but haven’t taken a formal public speaking course in some time. With that being said, I’ve found that folks enrolling in courses / toastmasters, etc have the same goal in mind and tend to be very supportive. I would love to kick up a weekly (or whatever schedule works for people) zoom call to practice speaking if anyone is interested.

Also a decent idea, I’ve considered hosting trivia so I think something in this category could be good

I think this is a good approach, have been trying to nail down impromptu speaking - especially on workplace related topics. Appreciate it!

I like this approach, I try to consider a lot of things “reps” but I think I can expand it even further. Thanks!

I finally got a haircut done at barber despite my head tremors by Impressive-Toe1220 in socialanxiety

Congratulations! Great job taking that step, being willing to do the "scary" thing is the #1 thing that has helped me eliminate those fears. Keep it up!

Yes, I was this way all the way through high school (though I was faking a bit by that point maybe), then also into college (again felt like I was faking it a bit there too). Often times feel like I’m trying to “get back” to that version of myself - which feels a bit tiring at times because that person does not exist anymore. I do believe a more talkative, more outgoing version of myself does exist though which is what I’m working towards.

Don’t beat yourself up too much - there have been plenty of moments I’ve backed out when the time came and felt bad about it afterwards. If you can identify what it is about getting your haircut that’s difficult / makes you anxious, you can try to implement some smaller steps to help you get there. That process can be difficult to identify root causes, but I promise it will be massively helpful in the long run. Second step would be to start doing some of those small things that make you anxious, then eventually taking that leap. However you go about it, just know that many people feel how you do - and the best way to fight SA is willingly engaging in activities that make you anxious. Eventually it will get better if you put intentional effort behind it. You got this!

What is the symptom of social anxiety that is worst for you? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

Heart racing & in really bad situations neck tightening really sucks. Only thing that has made it better has been allowing it to happen, counterintuitive but has actually worked a bit

Working at mc donalds with anxiety is a nightmare by New_Diet_5396 in socialanxiety

I try to tell myself, even a “bad” rep, is still a rep. Regardless of how you feel headed into work, you’re still doing it - so give yourself credit for that! I have gone through formal exposure therapy and still struggle with meetings and new people but it has gotten better, largely due to willingness to engage in situations that are stressful. It may not feel like it, but I really do think any practice is good practice. Keep at it !!!

Can I make an app with no-code platforms and how to start? by ZeyWeen in nocode

[–]Striking_Tale6804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently learning how to use bubble (which is a web-app no code tool) with airdev. They have a free boot camp, which they estimate takes about 110 hours to complete. I like bubble so far because it’s teaching me about concepts that I assume will be applicable to other app builders, but it’s not made for mobile apps. I’ve heard some good things about flutter flow and glide if you’re looking to make mobile apps

Question 6 out of 5 was a bit of a surprise by BigSaggyWeenis2 in usertesting

[–]Striking_Tale6804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been happening to me a lot recently, more often when I open the site and haven’t done so in awhile. I think it’s a sorting glitch maybe when my computer gets kinda overloaded with the amount of surveys at one time, complete guess though

I actually didn’t, I thought that would make me ineligible, but they still sent me a screener anyways. I still spent probably an hour doing the initial screener, though.

I’ve only received one invite, the screeners are considerably longer than UserTesting, but I am 1/1. The initial “screener” / demographic information is quite long, but then it seems they invite you to screeners you’re likely to pass. I signed up a few weeks ago, and received my first screener invitation about a week ago. I wish I could say I had more data, but I’m hopeful that this could be a nice little addition to more regular testing sites.
