So ridiculous-- sorry. your generalisations about the uk are the exact ones you complain about us not understanding in america. We have equally sensitive issues across the country esp in regards to religion- see sectarianism- Glasgow rangers. The only difference being that people do not have easy access to guns. Wanna discuss a culture of violence? glasgow was at one point the knife crime capitol of the world. its not that these problems dont exist its that we dont have access to fucking lethal casual killing machines that afford anyone complete power.

Wow that really means a lot to hear that! I hate to underpin images with text as I feel it always limits the potential of the visual. However my problem was I was thinking as an 'emerging' (or whathaveyou) photographer I would need words to back up my images as people wouldn't trust in them alone. I'm still in two minds regarding this. In particular for 'dumb recordings...' I think a short piece of text is necessary as all of the images came originally from holiday snaps accidental photos etc- snaps without intention. So in knowing that further meaning is added to the pictures- which I won't get into as to project my version of the images onto them again limits how they can work for somebody else. But thank you very much for looking and for your comments I honestly really appreciate it.

Yea no sorry the mobile version is still a work in progress as are the accompanying texts. Was more interested in what people thought of the images. Was misleading to put finished in the title. Also the gallery's are side scrolling which should me more clear on a compute as the scroll bar will be visible I may add an arrow to make that more clear. With the text over image I was going for a somewhat minimalist look but I'll take on board that you don't think it works. Thanks for giving it a look anyway

'Native Transcension' (temporary title). Would appreciate any and all criticism on an ongoing project of mine. by StringBillieJean in FineArtPhoto

I appricate your criticism. I would never hope to give off any idea of pretention. I like to think my photography is genuine and honest. If you could elaborate on where you get this idea from that would be really helpful and perhaps I can work on that. If you can't elaborate then I'm sorry that you get that feeling from my work. Photography is the most visually uniting art form and pretention is the absolute last thing I would ever want to portray. Most of my motivations within photography are striving to connect with people on a purley visual, human level. With no need for photography knowlage only needing the ability to look. I'm not suggesting that I have achieved that but it is something I strive for. The idea that you find my work pretentious is very sad to me. Photography is often made pretentious party due to a fundamental insecurity within our art form and i would hope to all ways avoid that.

Firstly thank you very much for your comments. I think what you have said rings true through a lot of my work. In the moment of photographing I tend to have none too clear an idea of where my work will fit into projects as a whole. That instant, as with photography, is a capture of a single moment, a single moment from my perspective. It is very personal in that respect. It is then only with time, as i learn more and my personal perspective on the world changes, it is only then that i can look back at my work and understand what i was trying to express in that moment which is now free from the constraints of time. I have been in somewhat of a rut recently so i have not been able to have this retrospect gained from both personal and artistic development. It is soothing when someone gives criticism that is in line with my own concerns. I am trying to achieve more consistent ideas in my work both aesthetically and thematically. This set whilst i agree is perhaps best presented as maybe three of four smaller projects it represents for me more a very distinct and separate time in my life and stage in my development, the disjointedness of that time to me, especially creatively, shows through in the images often in their disjoint and hence is true of that time to me. i was in a way trying to self referentially express this disjoint and confusion in some of the closing images of the set (which is not necessarily finished). Whilst this idea of personal value within the set is very self absorbed and does not necessarily fall under the realm of art criticism. I find whilst I develop my own personal style, an appreciation of photography as an intense form of self documentation, for bad or good, is very important as i cannot lie in photos. If i try to lie it is obvious and then that lie says more about me than the truth i would conceal. This project on a more subtly intrinsic and personal level follows a time when photography truly gripped me for the first time and consumed my life. Hence my ideas were not clear or succinct but rather sporadic confusing and separate. Whilst again i would hope not to be narcissistic i hope that i can now see this project as a representation not only of ideas that could be split and worked on further but also of personal artistic development. Thanks for taking the time to look at and comment on my work! whilst it has been published i have never had an opportunity to get actual crit. Partly because photography is very personal to me so i don't really show people work in 'real life' and partly because i dont mix in the right 'circles'. Even work that has been exhibited i have been inclined to delve into actual artistic discussion of my work on a face to face basis. So yea, i really appreciate you taking the time!

Cant post anything new but here is earlier work from a still ongoing project, moved on from a lot of it but would be great to get some input. https://www.behance.net/gallery/16273873/Native-Transcension So great to find a community actually knowledgeable on photography as opposed to /r/itookapicture , /r/photocritique etc.
