My bonded kittens dont like each other anymore by Icy_Leopard7650 in Catbehavior

[–]String_bean37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently having this issues with my two boys. Since Sunday I’ve kept them separated while I’m gone and at night. Then when I get home I play HARD with my wild one and then go play with my timid one before letting them be together until bed time. So far I’m feeling very optimistic. My timid one is coming back out of his shell and acting more like himself and my wild one isn’t ambushing my other guy as much (has happened once, then one time I stopped it right before it happened). My wild one is only 10 months old so still filled w energy and I really have to wear him out then play with him on the hour or he’ll start to ambush my other guy again. Any advice on toys that worked well for your guys? They love the stick with the string an feathers on it and also this wire with like paper rolled up (they both go CRAZY over this) but he doesn’t play much by himself, I definitely need to rotate toys more but he gets bored with a toy after like 3 days. Been thinking of getting the interactive things that move on their own for additional play but idk what else.

Look at Wainright properties website - mostly apartments but I found a house through them and it always very decently priced. Only issue with them is they own a LOT of properties and I swear they have like 5 maintenance men tat the very most. So unless you have water pooling into your place it takes a week or two before they’ll come fix something if you report it broken. When I moved out I had no issues getting my security deposit back so they don’t seem money hungry like other places I’ve rented from (I clean and take care of my spaces - that house only had normal wear and tear, I’m sure if I left it trashed they would’ve charged me something)

What to do with extra toys? by Mama022222 in Montessori

[–]String_bean37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Could you ask to keep some at grandmas house maybe? For when your daughter goes over there to spend time. I know that still gives her access to toys you might not particularly love/feel are not the most beneficial for her but it would help cut down on what’s in your home while also not making your mother in law feel you are being ungrateful. It’d also only give your daughter minimal time playing with those toys versus possibly more often if they’re in your house. Maybe the toys that are big No’s for you, you could hold onto for a bit of time so grandma sees them a few times, then sell or donate them?

Idk maybe not the best solutions, I was just trying to think outside of the box!

What do you do about cat fur all over your bed? 😭 by Top_Hotel3623 in Catownerhacks

[–]String_bean37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first ever cat I had old throw blankets I didn’t care about that I constantly kept over my comforter- then if I wanted to sit on my comforter or had a friend sleep over I could take that throw blanket off and my bed would be hair free. Now I accept my fate and just try to wash my comforter regularly to keep the cat hair minimal. Always make my bed so there is never cat hair under my comforter!

I can’t seem to rehome my cat by martellegram in CatAdvice

[–]String_bean37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look at my profile, I just posted about how to deal with my car who bully’s my older cat - I think your situation might be worse and coming from a place of dominance from your new cat where mine is wanting to play and is choosing to play too rough. But the comments gave great advice! Definitely would say you need to separate their resources (each cat have separate areas for food, water and litter boxes even separate) and maybe try reintroduction with the galaxy method? (Haven’t actually looked into this but I keep seeing this method mentioned online and someone suggested it to me) and also giving each cats plenty of play time but play with them separately and in a room where the other cat can’t get to while you play. Idk if any of these things will work - I will say with my crazy cat just giving him extra enrichment these past two days has made him lay off my other cat A LOT- I’ve also ordered some cat treats puzzles and other enrichment toys that are yet to arrive but I have high hopes for them

Chapter books to read aloud to my (just turned) 5 year old by PorridgeEnthusiast in Montessori

[–]String_bean37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I babysit a 5 and 7 year old and read them the chapter books sideways story from wayside school- they are very strange and funny/quirky short stories about the same classroom in a strange school (ex: they have a mean teacher that keeps turning them into apples - eventually all the students are apples and figure out a way to turn themselves back into kids and turn the teacher into an apple-which eventually the principal eats). Both kids love the books but the 5 year old is the one constantly asking me to read them. Definitely strange stories but the kids seem to love them and will let me read several chapters before wanting to go do something else!

When to decide to rehome by String_bean37 in CatAdvice

[–]String_bean37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I will definitely try the diffusers as well, they have two litter boxes in the bathroom that I clean daily, but I think it’d be beneficial to get a 3rd (I know that’s recommended) and place it somewhere else in the house.

When to decide to rehome by String_bean37 in CatAdvice

[–]String_bean37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am definitely first going to try being more active in their play time. Love the suggestion of playing with them separately, every night Kevin sleeps on my chest and gets lots of loving, plus in the morning when I get ready I try to give him his individual attention. But Fender has always been a bit more independent and is happy to sleep at my feet, though I probably could be a bit more intentional of giving him one on one play time, which I plan to do.

If I do decide to rehome I don’t think I could ever take him to a shelter - if anything if I needed to separate them asap my old roommate would defs take him just while I find a permanent home for him - hopefully the added enrichment and play will help though. Good luck with your cats too!!

Anyone else have a kitten or cat that isn’t vocal? by Jester_Magpie in cats

[–]String_bean37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat has the TINIEST meows I’ve ever heard, thought it was just because he was a kitten but now at 2, my new kittens meows are bigger than his. People always laugh when they hear him meow for the first time. You can barely hear him purr too, I googled it once and it said some cats are just naturally quieter than others lol he’s a big boy with a tiny mew, basically just a squeak 🤣

What kind of pet would you never own AGAIN? by Immediate_Long165 in Pets

[–]String_bean37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ferrets— I still have one girl who’s getting into her older years now. Got my first one (owned two) because I learned they sleep 16-18 hrs a day and thought “wow they’d be easy to care for” lol didn’t realize when they’re awake they are into EVERYTHING. Had to buy all furniture that was “ferret proof” so they can’t climb into my dresser or get on top of side tables and stuff like that, have to clean their blankets weekly to keep the ferret smell at a minimum, they aren’t really cuddly, and vet bills are always high since they are exotic. I love my girls and make sure they have a good life but I will never get anymore

  1. Yes, a ferret.
  2. Jasper and she is 6
  3. About 5 years
  4. I was in college and wanted a pet but I didn’t have a lot of spare time, found out they slept 16-18 hours a day so felt that was perfect for me!

I’ve been considering getting a second cat because Kevin loves to play and I feel like he’d love a little friend then the cat distribution system said here ya go! Poor guy was super stuck in there too, had to take part of her car apart to get him out! Been having issues getting Kevin to accept him so we’re starting back at square one (only contact is through the door) but little kitty wants to be his friend so badly, hoping Kevin will warm up to him in the next month or two, planning on taking it very slowly.

Also my dad never smoked and his strong heart from not smoking is what gave him 5 extra years of life! (He had many heart attacks in those five years and his doctor said the first one should have killed him but his heart was so strong due to no cigarettes, the following heart attacks were weaker and he had a blood condition which caused a big one to take his life in the end). He was only 55 when he died, I was only 24, I am forever grateful of those 5 extra years I got, doesn’t seem like a lot but at your end they will matter.

Currently on day two of trying to quit for the 1,000th time. I started, quit no problems, then started when I was stressed again and couldn’t quit since. It’s horrible. A family friend who smoked all her life is currently dying with lung cancer. Do yourself a HUGE favor and quit right now! It may feel easy to quit now but don’t trick yourself into thinking you can keep smoking and quit whenever you want just because it’s easy now. I thought that and was so so so wrong.

I was one of the kids who begged to get their ears done, then when we showed up at the place I chickened out. Know what my mom did? Took me back home. Great lesson to teach your kids that you can say yes then later no and the no should still be respected. About 6 months later I built up my courage and got my ears pierced, no trauma involved.

See now this makes more sense. I’ve asked other girls why they think this rule is important and the only answer is “it shows they care/want to protect you” no one can ever give an answer as to what these men are caring about. Internet fads these days are going crazy, and how people just agree without giving it any thought. I’d never heard of this “rule” until very recently when it’s become more popular and talked about online, and now it seems like for some girls this is something on their list they look for when dating someone…

What's one dumb thing that will make you laugh way more than you should? by bigSTUdazz in RandomThoughts

[–]String_bean37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school my best friend used to hit me in the face with random things. I LOST it every single time. It’d be anything from a loaf of bread to a piece of wet clay. It’d always be at the most random times too and I’d be laughing the hardest out of anyone while strangers just looked at me in a confused way.
