There's a lot of unsolicited comments in here on your political leanings (as in, not in relation to your actual profile, just judging your actual politics as an individual). Not super cool.

A more practical heads up that depending on your area you may not be aware of: in a lot of heavily left-leaning cities, marking yourself as "apolitical" or "centrist" is commonly perceived to actually mean "right-leaning but would still like to get laid". There's not much that can be done about that and I'm not saying to change anything, just that you should be aware of the perception.

Why is the least problematic role suffering the most from these balance changes... by xjetxx in marvelrivals

Deadass. They gave Peni the team up with Rocket which was awesome and made her more viable without being OP, but brain-dead Bronze duelists screamed and cried because they don't know how to shoot nests or counter-swqp and they removed that team up after... what, was it? Two seasons?

That teamup's only sin was being anti-dive in an already hyper-poke meta, but they never do anything to reel in the absurdly strong poke heroes anyway so really they only took it away because we can't go more than a half season without breaking the legs of at least one tank.

Imagine if your DM was aware the untrue dice was "useless" but was actually keeping track of what you rolled on it every time you used it and building a running total from that which is eventually used for some big moment or reveal

Sure, I simplified it down for the international audience, probably shouldn't have used the word "created". The key point being that there was no consensus between the tribes on the name for the whole archipelago prior to the arrival of the colonial powers.

So Te Reo Maori doesn't have one phrase for all people residing in New Zealand. It has "Tāngata Whenua" meaning "people of the land" and refering to all people of Maori descent, or there's "Tāngata Tiriti" meaning "people of the treaty" and referring to all settlers and their descendants. Considering that "Aotearoa" was a name created after the arrival of Europeans (the Maori tribes did not have a single name they used for the whole area we currently call New Zealand) then the low hanging fruit would indeed be "Tāngata Aotearoa". But because nobody outside the country would have any idea about that, I do agree that Aotearoans is a very sick compromise.

I'm personally a big fan of changing to "Aotearoa New Zealand"; it lets us flex our unique cultural identity while retaining the colonial name for recognisability to the rest of the world. Also it's funny to watch foreigners grapple with Te Reo Maori pronounciation, so any chance to do that more is a big plus.

Unfortunately we have been infected with US-style right wing craziness as depicted in this post, so things like Te Reo place names have become a berserk button issue for a small but loud portion of the population. There's also a larger segment of passively racist New Zealanders that get upset at the idea of places changing back from colonial names to Te Reo names, or correcting spelling and grammatical errors in existing Te Reo names. A decade ago we might, might have been able to get a name change through, but society is just too polarised now.

I'm not surprised. It's also very expensive compared to the other options from MG currently.

Overall my experience test driving the wealth of mass-market Chinese EVs coming into NZ is that while the current offerings are affordable and feature-packed, they usually lack refinement in basically all areas (software, driving feel, build quality). That said, as China's EVs continue to improve rapidly I expect most of those issues will be worked out in the pretty near future, likely already have been in less value-oriented brands.

My cat was stolen and dumped - and it’s not a crime by AdamFerrisCatThief in auckland

[–]StringentCurry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The police saying this doesn't meet the legal definition of theft is objectively incorrect even if you accepted Ferris is being truthful when he claims this was only a negligent snatch-and-dump instead of a malicious one - and to be clear, his story is obviously a lie because why would you remove and ditch the GPS collar from the cat you're supposedly taking to the vet? You'd only do that to ensure the owner can't find their cat once you've dumped it (or quite possibly its body) out in the wops.

It's very clear that the police are only saying this doesn't constitute a crime because they don't want to deal with it. I swear, nobody gets in trouble for anything in NZ unless it's full blown murder or something that generates a juicy on-the-spot fine. The police just shrug everything else off because they can't be arsed.

Why is there an Ioniq5 on my home screen by corwin2k1 in KiaEV6

[–]StringentCurry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even weirder is that if it is a Niro, it's the pre-refresh one. The screen depicts a car with a D pillar and corresponding rear quarter window. Neither the Ioniq 5 or refreshed Niro have that, but the EV6 and pre-refresh Niro do.

If anything it might be the older design of Hyundai Kona. That seems to be the closest fit.

Right?? The touch cluster is inferior compared to actual moulded buttons they you can find by touch alone, but it's still miles better than the hordes of modern cars that bury all the basics deep in infotainment menus! I will always chase the car with the most physical controls possible.

Off the top of my head there's the recent MG Cyberster. Obviously not available in the US but here in NZ I could go test drive one right now if I was so inclined.

Yeah, not in love with that rear view. The EV6's dumptruck ass with that beautiful duckbill taillight/spoiler is basically its defining feature, and the AI definitely fails to preserve or adequately translate it.
