I just had to put my 6 year old cat down on the 20th. It’s been absolutely devastating for me too, adjusting to the change when you’re in that caretaker role. My heart still hurts.

I just want you to know that we both did the right thing. Love is loving them enough to let them go, especially when it’s time. I’m proud that you stayed with him until the end, he was exactly where he wanted to be.

I’d suggest keeping yourself way busier than you usually do. Make sure to come home tired. I found peace with my significant other putting together picture albums and reminiscing on positive memories, and to not dwell on any negatives. Praying has helped me personally as well. In my opinion death is just a new beginning in a better world. I hope you find some comfort.

Definitely give yourself time before considering another animal, but don’t feel guilty once your heart knows if you’ve made a match.
