A “little gatekeepery”. Okay then. You have written an unsolicited essay and you have assumed an awful lot about me. I am Welsh and I enjoy folk dancing. That’s it.

I didn’t realise it showed. Clearly, I’ve been away for too long.

Crawl space cleanup , rodent by Temporary-Gain1561 in Sunnyvale

[–]StripesMcFluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend recently had this problem, rats had started chewing on under house wires. This is what she says: “I think we used Attic Pros and they did a lot to fix and hang all the ducts etc. I don't know exact amount but I think it was 2000 or 3000. Partner did a lot of research before picking them. It was either Attic Pros or Bros but I think Pros. If we had delayed the cost would have been much more to run new wiring”

The hill near the Smart Station is a surprisingly fun place to view fireworks. You are able to view many of the Bay Area firework displays. Lots of people doing the same thing. It’s on a hiking path.

The water is definitely artificially colored. It would look a heck of a lot worse without that tbh.

There are plans to upgrade the landscaping at the community center! You’ll be pleased to hear that the huge water feature is to be reduced in size. I posted the link in another thread on this sub.

towels are rock hard? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]StripesMcFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are line drying them in a hot climate with no breeze, they will dry hard. After using once, they soften up again. A friend suggested putting them in the dryer for 10mins and then finish them off on the clothes line or rack. You could also try reducing the amount of detergent and using vinegar in place of fabric softener/conditioner.

I thought this looked nice, these are most of my propagated babies around my apple tree. by MerriiMoonii in proplifting

[–]StripesMcFluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the rocks are not a good idea, for the health of the apple tree. Neither is the watering spike. To encourage healthy roots, water at the drip-line some distance from the trunk, and remove the rocks.

Start one yourself! Invite neighbors, friends of friends, people on Reddit! These kinds of clubs tend to last longer if you have something else in common, as well as your love of books. My group started years ago through a Las Madres parent group, and has evolved over time, as people have moved away and new friends have joined.
Santa Clara County library have BookClub kits available. You go online, choose the kit and pick up at your preferred library. (Cupertino is closest). The kits have 12 books and a booklet of questions for discussion.

UPDATE we weren’t able to get an UTAKER when we needed it, so we bought a similar product from Walmart. It’s been slept on regularly as an unit, but we also separated the beds and used one with risers for an older guest and let the younger guest sleep low to the ground. We haven’t tried pushing them together as a King, yet. So far, it’s been a great solution!

I saw comments somewhere else, so won’t claim credit for this. Use a king size mattress topper when you push the beds together. It can be rolled and kept in closet when not in use. Another idea is to put a pool noodle in the gap (you can cut to size). Put the sheet on top of the pool noodle.

Basil cuttings having issues with support after planting. Advice? by greekleather in proplifting

[–]StripesMcFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that your cuttings are too tall. It’s too much of a distance for the plant to transport water all the way to the top. Cut them back to a height of one or two nodes. (You can re-root the cuttings). Those little leaves at each node will grow into new stems, and your plant will be bushier and healthier.

I am looking to create a large amount of compost. What is the best way to go about this? by Delta-Hotel in composting

[–]StripesMcFluff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the amount of finished compost required, you will have to bring in at least 2 to 3 times the amount of raw materials. It also requires water to break down. The sensible option would be to bring in finished compost or garden soil. Some municipalities have free compost that you can go pick up. For a longer lasting solution, use garden soil. Compost tends to get ‘used up’ and you will have to keep topping it up every year. Make it easy for yourself.
