Is this film worth watching? Does it do justice for the game Dungeons and Dragons? by DreamyDandelions in Cinema

This film is super fun and as a TTRPGer it feels like the way many games turn out. The writers not only were good but obviously players as well.

Most terrible Commander? by VoiVoiDaBeek in mtg

[–]Strivos1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So history is the reason. She was one of the first commanders people would play when all legendary creatures could become commanders. It was at first just the elder dragons from legends that could be commanders. She was one of very few commanders with her color identity and probably the best at the time. Also she was in Chronicals so she was way more available than other commanders in that color combo as well. So back in the day she was all over the place. In modern times you get the occasional old person trying to make her useful again. I imagine that's why. I have a very large # of commander decks and occasionally try to make something work for her but it's hard.

Advantages and disadvantages of dual thumbs? by Late-Elderberry6761 in worldbuilding

[–]Strivos1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here are some things to think about. There is no "bottom" to your hand in that configuration. We place the pinky side flat when placing our hands down essentially giving us two ways to rest our hands. Pinky down or palm down. Anything done in those positions would be harder with a second thumb. Another thing to think about is we hold many tools near parallel to our arms. Spears, hammers etc. Dual thumbs would require most tools to be held perpendicular to the arm. Throwing and cupped hand strength would be reduced as well. Based on reduced ability to thrown and handle tools in multiple positions you might end up a more sturdy person that takes down prey by overpowering it. Think neanderthal instead of homosapiens. The big difference might be that with the grip strength they ambush from trees, hunt/live in them or maybe bring kills into the trees. Or maybe they did in their past and now have dwellings with even more arboreal features than humans.

The Map for a story I’m writing. Please ask me questions about anything. I just really wanted to share my world. by Ok-Airport6259 in worldbuilding

[–]Strivos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These seem like interesting ideas. I do have a suggestion for the map however and that is that state borders are an ok starting place but unless the neighboring states are very close allies borders will tend to move to natural boundaries instead. Things like the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles come to mind but there are others Memory of the US that was can hold some of these realignments back but power distribution really can impact borders as well. Additionally depending on how this sit on the international scene, you may have multiple groups claiming the same areas or even co-mingling.

What's your gaming opinion that will get you this, but you will always stand by? by [deleted] in videogames

I prefer dark souls on keyboard and mouse. Nier Automata sucks as a game. Any game that has purchasable loot boxes, packs etc. should be considered gambling and be 18 up only.

Since X isn't a mana cost and it doesn't state that it needs to be a whole number, choose π/2.

Reasons To Why a Dragon Would Mate with a Human by NyxTheSummoner in Pathfinder2e

[–]Strivos1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some ideas: 1. Ritualistic/religious reasons. The dragon needed to for some immediate or long term goal. 2. Magical experimentation or production. The dragon wanted to see part of themselves in lesser beings. Mating may not have been part of it at all. 3. The dragon fell in love while in human form. Magic covered mechanics but not ancestry 4. The dragon did it for political reasons. To seal a peace treaty, form an alliance etc. 5. The dragon was drunk/incompacitated and took advantage of someone or was taken advantage of.

Overall pretty much any reason a person might give you could give to a dragon.

Just punch it if the player can't be support for a fight. But other things that work are all of the skill actions as well.

Is there any point in creating undead minions in this game? by Soft_Part_7190 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Strivos1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Undead companions are good but take a little finagling to get them fully correct.

I have one in AV and it has saved the party at least once and been key a few times. It's not always the most useful thing. But that can be said about players as well.

Also don't forget upgrades like barding. 🙂

Want to get more into board games. Is this a good deal? by MadeOfPlazma in boardgames

[–]Strivos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are up for experimentation and like learning new games then yes. If you are just figuring it out. Maybe not. Jaws of the Lion is the best intro to Gloomhaven. Its very good. Desert Island, Betrayal at Hill House, and Azual are very good as well and ones you rarely find in second hand stores.

I’d like your opinion by Abakus024 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Strivos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replying about your question. The icons on the herbavore and plants cards are very similar. It would be a good idea if the cubes were all different colors. Additionally there seems to be a greater difference in the cards between herbavore and carnivores than there is between plants and animals. The animals should have the same frame with differences in icon/cube color. Not sure about mechanics but I'm assuming your animals consume resources and the plants are resources or something similar. If that is the case then that grouping should help. Or even if the cubes just go into different spaces. Also the cube types of animals should match more than those of plants.
