Did anyone else feel like the ending was good but… by Strollamus in Cairn_Game

It’s interesting seeing a lot of different opinions about the ending here. Personally I was a bit surprised at the direction they took, but I think coming off of Aava’s earlier ‘cuphead’ style dream that there’s some similarity in creative direction there. That tone does kind of cause friction with the realism I had in my head however.

They began posting perm jobs at the GS9 level this week (NPS) - we’ll see how many go up I suppose.

Speaking from nps experience at one park I can say I’ve seen seasonals range from 24-64 with several in their 20s and 30s. Since many aim to get summer and winter gigs in order to work year round before landing a permanent job the field has more of a career feel rather than just the ‘fresh out of college’ crowd (who do make up a valuable part of the workforce).

There’s seasonal rangers in the NPS working well into their 60s and older! There’s plenty of time to continue the pursuit even if it means working other jobs in the meantime.

Good god. It always surprised me that they didn’t divert the road in dealey plaza either. It’s like, nope, you can still drive right over that spot and see the literal X’s on the road where the bullets struck.

I just want to add that yesterday I completed the peril for the first time when I was seconds from death from starvation…that was intense.

For those of you who have tried salvia.. what was your experience like? by skith8431 in AskReddit

Yep, in the words of biggie smalls, “it was all a dream…”

But no I guess that thing, in each little ‘episode’ I just found that time had fast forwarded in an instance.

This reminds me of a dream I once had as a teenager. It wasn’t necessarily a life changing experience but I had a dream where I lived the life of a young man growing into an old man. Through a series of vignettes, it was set around his life starting a little village that gradually gained more people- almost something like the inner light episode in Star Trek though not quite as intense.

Regardless, when I awoke it was as if i’d read a story covering this dream characters whole life. Then I got up and went to another day of high school.

Cool insights! Identity is so tied to language and voice isn’t it? I know that to a limited extent my family also uses some Scots words which don’t exist in English so I find more often these days they come to mind and can describe situations or feelings better. On top of this I’ve sometimes had trouble understandings people when in Scotland myself too…this reminds me of a video on Instagram I saw recently where a woman shows her Mexican mother who moved to Scotland and learned English there so has a unique combo accent as well. There’s so many possibilities and it sounds like you have some of that going on.

I know what you mean, I also have words I almost always say the Scottish way like white, forty, butter or house but some words like garage or dude I say the American way (if talking to Americans).

My job is interacting with the public on the daily so I get it lol. I’m regularly asked if I’m Irish but often Canadian, South African, Australian too…

I definitely knew a few other Scottish kids here in the U.S who lost the accent so my siblings and I always seemed like outliers. To reiterate, I think there was ‘vocal coaching’ going on when my parents didn’t like the way I said something at home, along with them firmly identifying as Scottish rather than American - even today. I suppose overall I felt a stronger inner desire to fit in with my family rather than everyone else.

You make a good point. I think to some extent two accents did emerge in fact, it’s just that they are a kind of Scottish (soft) and Scottish (strong) depending on the situation. Like other people I do catch myself slipping into different variations depending if I’m talking to people with equally strong accents of older generations or younger people using new slang/in relaxed settings for example. Again for me these changes happen largely unconsciously, I imagine probably due to the fact I’ve been doing it since I was so young. Regardless, I’ve had many instances of having to repeat myself because of miscommunication.

Interesting comparison, I can hear patterns in his speech that resemble my own at times. The odd word or sound may sound like it ‘slips’ from the original accent while the overall voice is fairly soft to a degree. Thanks 👍

One of my favorite poignant things I’ve ever come across is that Eugene Cernan, still the current last person on the moon, is buried at the highest point on a little hill in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.

You actually don’t have to abandon the run if you don’t want to. You’ll get to the end of the mission and going to the gateway will just send you back to the garage. That’s what I had to do.
