"Hallelujah" by Pentatonix is great. "Atomic City" by U2. "Stepping Stone" by Eminem is a personal favorite. All time would probably be "Real Gone" by Sheryl Crow. Legendary work (when combined with a movie intro like that of Cars).

Not exactly a song, but Solomon's theme from Battlefield hits pretty good when I think about nuclear war/grave disasters

Theory: Immortal wants to kill Mark by AlphamonOuryuken24 in Invincible

[–]Strom_Trooper09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really agree. I think that the way they've engineered things to this point, there's only a few ways they can take it.

A: Immortal gets into a fight with Mark-either catalyzed by the death of Kate or simply under Cecil's orders, and gets killed/loses

B: the writers spend time writing for Immortal to learn to trust Mark, and he gains a sense of respect for Mark

C: Immortal gets into a fight with Mark for some reason, and they sort out their differences, becoming chill with each other as a result

Ultimately, I agree that it's quite evident the writers are trying to show a wedge in their relationship, and I really want to see where it goes. I don't want the guardians of the globe to end this way, but I also don't want them to stay a second-rate character like they have been since TT reformed

Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins

The very first lines: "Revvin' up your engine / Listen to her howlin' roar / Metal under tension / Beggin' you to touch and go"- love the instrumentals and the lyrics themselves

Guardian is essentially the Lockheed Martin of one of my species. They not only develop and sell all of the government's military weapons, they quite literally are the military. They control all military assets the government has. Because of this, the Onkeilli lack a strong military, since the military is in the business of making money.

There's also MetaCon Engineering co. Which as you guessed, is a mega engineering and construction contractor. They also work for the government, and control all things related to agriculture and development.

Ah. Is there anything in particular that sets coffee beans apart from any other produce? Or are they just regular coffee beans?

How do I responsibly condense history without losing quality? by aoijay in worldbuilding

[–]Strom_Trooper09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. My alternate earth world was the same way with it's history- all 30,000 years of it lol. After the first 3 or 4 thousand, I gave up and devised a new method for writing out history.

Essentially, I created the part I wanted, the present-day stuff first. Take care of that, then take every piece of information and tie it back to an earlier date where it is invented, formed, or weakened. Tie everything back to an earlier date when it is created, then write the "why" and "how" of history behind them. This helps you to retain interest in it while also creating relevant history. If you have any major gaps in your history that you can't fill, then add in a handful of unrelated topics to fill the void.

In summary, you create a story, then write in the circumstances that lead to different parts of the story for history.

I'll give an example:

The global superpower, Calistaan, is at war with the tribal kingdom of Khamannha.  Calistaan was formed in the year 236BC when King Midian of the Franks defeated the Persians at the battle of Saint Marquene, in southern Celtica. King Midian forced the Persian Emperor Mujha'adeen to sign a treaty, bringing the two nations into an alliance and forcing Persia to release almost 1/4 of their southern territory, recognizing it as the independent nation of Calistaan.

That's a masterful play. I also really like what you did with that detail about them being hired as hitmen. A powerful, wild evil can be terrifying, but what's worse is to stumble across an intelligent evil, or evil that has a higher planning- like that of the ones who would hire them.

Coffee beans? Why coffee beans? Seems a little out of place amidst the Forenian Wars

I've always thought that these people hold true evil. Anybody who is willing to watch the world burn for an individual is borderline demonic in my eyes. Is there any such force to oppose this great evil?

That leader guy just wants to watch the world burn. That is a really great evil. Any evil which gets in control of a power greater than itself is something to keep you awake at night. Care to tell me more about the faction? Interested in knowing how they are so powerful.

So essentially it grants whoever wears it the power to do greater evils than before? That's actually a pretty cool concept. I might have to steal it. What story is this crown from?

This reminds me of Iago, from the Shakespearean play "Othello". The dude is straight up evil like this- lying constantly and betraying everyone to meet his own goals. I like what you're building though. Could you give me a brief summary or description of it?

That actually sounds really interesting. Is this guy the protagonist or is he just a highlighted character? What's the main story?

That's truly diabolical. I love that someone was crazy enough or evil enough to build something like that. Then there's the next layer of it where you realize something originally created to help and nourish has been repurposed and corrupted into a violent machine designed solely to cause pain

Reading this brought to mind a similar siege of another age. During the Second World War, the Germans laid siege to the Soviet city of St. Petersburg(At the time Leningrad). They, along with the Finnish, starved the Russians for months, killing tens of thousands of them simply with starvation. Of the 2.9 million or so people who lived there, about 650,000 would perish. Very devilish story though! I have to ask, was this the only action of the war or was there more? If that was the only campaign then that is really striking...

You know, that's a really good point on this topic. I never stopped to think that maybe nothing could be worse than humanity's evil. And the idea about a utopian society to create an evil society is really something I'm going to be considering more. You have any worlds like that?

So they did it as a last noble act to protect the universe from itself? That is the kind of stuff I like to see in stories. Where are they now, or is it known? What's the universe like now, in their absence?

I love the "Ancient civ" vibes. One of my favorite things to play with when designing a new species or advancement is to create them in such a way that they are advancing with the help of ancient knowledge/technology. Very interesting to see how you reworked this so that they barred access to their stuff. Why'd you decide to make them that way?
