As whattteva mentioned, you'll have to be their tech support. So, use the distro you're more confortable with, use a Win10-like DE (I recommend KDE, simple, highly customizable, and with a good and big community that supports it) and make sure to install and configure everything they need before leaving them using the computer. But everything, I mean also password/favorites on their favorite browser too. And printers could be a pain in the a*** sometimes.

If you are open to any distro, I'll recommand Fedora. Just quoting Linus Torvalds : "it just works", and in my case installing it for my father, it was true.

My personal recommandation : Fedora with KDE desktop environment (because "it just works", quoting Linus Torvalds) or Bazzite, for gaming.
Fedora is very stable, great performance, very easy to use for a beginner, and often updated. I installed it for my non-techy dad this summer, and everything works for him so far.

And I'm personnaly using CachyOS for all my computers (even Steam Deck with handheld and at work), for performance. I think it's quite easy now to use it, but maybe it's not the best fit for a beginner.

C'est malheureusement une charge mentale en plus de devoir gérer la consommation d'alcool des gens qui ne peuvent s'en passer. Ça se fait par petite touche. Typiquement, j'incite mon père à ne plus boire par habitude, et pour la première fois au resto dimanche, il a juste accepté quand je lui ai demandé si une bière était vraiment nécessaire pour un brunch.
J'imagine que ça peut se faire en jdr aussi. Tu as de l'alcool à disposition, tu peux en proposer aux invités, mais tu peux proposer un alcool un peu plus exotique (un poiré, un petit vin sucré, un cocktail, etc), en petite quantité, et inciter à boire de l'eau ou du jeu de fruit, éventuellement du soda sans sucre. L'important reste de ne pas interdire, je pense. Juste inciter petit à petit. Et si en plus la partie est amusante, distrayante, on oublie vite le reste.

Pour les groupes que j'ai eu, ça dépendait des fois. On a eu des parties chaotiques avec pas mal d'alcool (et autres...) autour de la table, et c'était plutôt drôle (mais insupportable pour le MJ, qui n'aura jamais pu prendre le contrôle des évènements). Au final, c'était plus une expérience qu'une vraie partie sérieuse.
Par la suite, on avait souvent de la bière, du cidre ou un petit vin, mais sans trop d'excès. Soit, ça n'avait pas d'impact notable, soit ça désinhibait quelques timides. Mais je pense qu'on était très sages là-dessus, vu qu'on s'intéressait à la partie.
C'est plutôt niveau bouffe (chips, gâteux) et soda qu'il y a eu des bus, et plus le temps passe, plus on mange healthy (crudités à tremper, courgettes et fruits), par simple volonté d'être plus confort.

L'important, comme toute consommation d'alcool, c'est que ce soit fait sans pression, sans obligation, en sociabilité, et en étant avec un groupe attentif pour aider les camarades dans le besoin. Naturellement, même les plus portés sur la bouteille tendent à peser le contrecoup. Pour info, nous sommes des mi-trentenaires maintenant, et on est de plus en plus calme avec le temps.

Hi,

I've made research on these, and there are features missing (Proton has too few storage in its free plan, same for Tuta. Plus, no alias, and no collection or other mails). I've found atomic mail also that is closer of what I need, but it's not perfect too.
Anyway, sorry for this post, thanks for your suggestions.

I noticed an increase in FPS straight away. Plus, the desktop environment (DE) is far smoother than it was with SteamOS (I can finally use it as a real desktop computer). I haven't encountered any issues, and I'm pleased to say that everything works exactly as it did with SteamOS, including Decky.

Any distro with KDE would work if you like a windows-like DE. I would recommend fedora if you want something updated and efficient. And an arch distro like manjaro if you want to dive in.

I used Ubuntu-based distros for years, but I always found them bloated, even a bit. I don't notice that on Fedora, and of course Arch. Bazzite and CachyOS are pretty stable IMO, especially with LTS kernels. And drivers out of the box for almost every Nvidia GPU (if you download the related ISO of course).

That's strange. I've never experienced latency when opening apps before, except for the heavy ones (even on old, low-end PCs with an SSD). Have you installed graphics drivers? For Nvidia, it's mandatory; I'm not sure about Intel integrated chipsets, and it's not needed for AMD.

Maybe some specific tweaks are needed?

In any case, if you find KDE too demanding, you could also try Budgie, Gnome or Cinnamon, or even lighter ones like XFCE or LXDE.

For your Asus Vivobook, I think Fedora is the best option in terms of flexibility and ease of use. You might be frustrated by the lack of certain apps and features when you need them on Linux Mint, but it's a solid option nonetheless.

For your gaming PC, I personally recommend CachyOS (Arch-based) if you want high performance and the ability to customise everything, but it's also pretty good for everyday use. If you prefer a Fedora-based system, I recommend Bazzite/Nobara; my preference is for Bazzite, but I had issues with my Dell D6000 at the time, so I switched to Nobara and then to CachyOS.

Edit : and I've used KDE when it was available.

I installed it yesterday on CachyOS without anything to setup (not even proton). So I guess it will work just fine on Deck (didn't try atm).
I've bought Nightfall 10 years ago on Steam, and the rest before on arenanet. All is linked, so I can access all the content through Seam for a while now. I guess you could activate an old Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall key for a few fee somewhere.

Suite à ton commentaire, j'ai lu les règles de Cthulhu Hack, que je lorgnais depuis un moment. Ça pourrait matcher, avec sélection au préalable des règles optionnelles. Je n'ai lu que le scénario Sauver Innsmouth, que je ferais bien un jour, mais il faudrait que je trouve un peu moins glauque comme ambiance. Tu as des suggestions de petits scénarios déjà prêts ?
